Oh boy that looks like fun! They're really adorable Debra, I hope they found lots of goodies for the turtles.
Plant Propagation The Basics ,October 2016
Looks like they had a great time Debra. I may have to borrow children at some point, for now I have grands but they grow up so fast, my oldest granddaughter is 16.
Nice time of year ,some weekend playing , good things ,,
Playing and doing , me too ,, lol
What, prey tell, are you going to do with those tender seedlings come winter?
Robin except for the first pic? , those are all zone 3 and4 plants , they show as seedlings this time of year , Some of those are leaves as big as my hand ,
in the jugs , seena , aster , erigeron , nettle , mallow ,, you could freeze some of them on concrete in mid winter and they would grow in spring ,,
in answer ,, not a thing , I am going to let them set right where they are ,, lol
plant growing , not gardening I have a Big fuzzy heart leaved something I don't know what it is either about 3 ft longest stalk and another about 2 ft , I will get a pic shortly ,,
The petunia ,, seeds later

I have luck with the petunias too .One of my friend's Mom gave me few plants of the Million Petunias about five years ago and every year they reseed themselves and is even is still blooming in my Asphalt driveway next to the garage and also in the lawn .I usually pick up as many as I need and transplant them in containers and in the garden beds.
Petunias overwinter here pretty well. But they do NOT over-summer.
You're ever so brave Ju...carry on! Sorry I can't help on the ID.
Gypsy, you can get your weather revenge now, I'm sure TX is much more conducive to growing than MI right now. I could sure use a Texas winter home.
Robin it's a Cuban Oregano , Mexican Mint ,, something I planted , forgetful ol me ,,
If I was going somewhere , I would like a desert place where nobody wants to go ,
I would end up staying though , and become the cactus ghost ,or gorgon lol ,
Socio , i guess ,, I'm silly still ..
Mid thirties tonight , we will see after as the weather is suppose to moderate upcoming ,
Texas is going back into drought right now Robin. I haven't put my wildflower seeds out yet because it is dry as dust out and the wind will just carry them off. I may have to build the lot's irrigation system this winter. It should be raining here half of october. It is sunny and almost 90. Flowers are pretty, if they are watered
Is it snowing in michigan?

It's not snowing yet Gypsi and I'm hoping it holds off until December. We'll see how that wishful thinking goes. It's going to be mid 30's tonight and warm up a bit for the rest of the week.
Better late than never Ju...remembering that is. I like silly, it makes life more fun.
Reno almost came to a screeching halt today! Had the grandkids as there was no school and we were having a great day taking the fish out of the pond to get ready for winter. Kids were cold and wet so we decided to go for an early lunch and that's when things turned ugly. I attempted to heat up a pot of Wendy's home made soup in our newly installed over the range Samsung microwave and it caught on fire. It was only the 4th time we used it. Luckily I got it extinguished but it burned a 2" inch hole in an inner plastic looking cover plate. Damage was isolated to the microwave itself. They are sending someone from Kenora to check it out next week. SCARY.
Little Reece sometimes comes up was some pretty grown up lines. She went to the discharge end of the hose that we were draining the pond with and reported back: "I'm not at all impressed with what's going on over there Grandpa". There were two chewed up baby fish that had got sucked up by the pump. We ended up with 24 new babies that survived the ordeal. Lunch ended up being a lot longer than expected due to the fire and having to start a claim with Samsung and I had forgotten to check the water lily pots for fish that got trapped during the draining. There were 2 babies that were caught high and dry in one pot. They looked dead but both revived when we gave them a dip in the rain barrel. You can't even tell which ones they are so I think they will be fine
JU do you have a picture of the Cuban Oregano? If it is the one I am thinking of, I would love to have a start from it. Also, it would be beautiful in those planters you were making last summer.
Cyft, would love to have some cuttings of the ROS you have. Debra, remember the Fire Starters, or something you gave me? I took the cuttings like you said and put them in water, and the next day they were so wilted and knew they would not make it.
Speaking of sunflowers, Do you guys have those small ones, foot high, first ones out in the spring, and they grow in the pine trees where it is dry? They are so cool to bloom so early. I had Bob get me some seeds, don't know if they will grow or not. Will stratify this winter and see.
'nite you all, jen
Several planters here Jen , The Above Photo is the Oregano and again here ,
Lots of different planters Jen ,
Keith , Sounds difficult , patience testing and all ,I don't stress myself I make stress humorous after years of that , still is though , That microwave going poof is bad though !!!
Jen I will see if your sunflowers are the shorter wild ones we rarely see
I'm sure the planters will show as I show plants
Warm 70's here today and my side aches
Hey ,, growing Grandkids
JU is that Cuban oregano the one they call Kent Beauty? It really is beautiful.
Sounds like you had quite a day Kieth. Wonder if the Samsung microwave you have is having the same problem as the Samsung iphones?
Jen

So not only are their batteries a fire hazard, but so are their electrical units...Samsung is having a bad year. I'm so sorry to hear Keith but am thankful somebody was home to put out the fire!
well time to lift and divide perennials and bulbs and get some stuff in the ground today!
Grand kids sounds fun, Gypsy. Fires caused by anything scares me, Keith. I am glad you and your family are safe. Your little one made a very astute statement. Jen, try a thicker part of the fire spike for setting in water, and use well or rain water. I have tons of that stuff can replenish you with next spring, did it ever bloom for you>? Mine is all in bloom atm.
I have seedlings that are fuzzy here, but I know they are salvias. lots of wild hyssop up already as well as some mints. love the color on the dogwood. I have 5 seeds of pink flowering dogwood trees I am gonna try to grow. I have a lemon tree that came from a seed, I need to bring it in it is still outside where it seems to be doing just fine with all this incredibly warm temps for Fall.
not too many blooms on my moonflower (the hawaiian type) as I didn't water enough this year. But fall is always its best and most fragrant time. Monarchs on my milkweed.
Found a mason bee on my Gregg's Mist flower I was loading for a customer. (we filled his pond in, here comes the butterfly garden). My ginger plant on the kitchen counter. Doing better where it gets just a little water each day. Not molding and not dead. Harvested pollen for my helper, he is working on an allergy formula.
Sure am hoping to see some Pink Dogwwods bloom at some point Debra, I do like Dogwoods, good luck!
I hope you're enjoying that fragrance Gypsi! I think your bee is a Sweat Bee -- they're so cool and great pic BTW. I love your gardening hands and always jonesing to get my hands in the dirt.
Good to see someone still lives here. Thought you guys had all gone on holidays and left me behind!. Already had a 2017 seed catalogue in the mail last week. I think Wendy tried to hide it!
Only one seed catalog? I've had a couple I think. My dogs try to eat them.
LOVE the moonflower, and love that green bee! I have never seen Bee Pollen before like that. Very interesting! No Rain for awhile now, and still have a few tropicals in ground, I am hoping to get them in Sunday.. we will see.. Joe gathered 4 wagon loads of leaves for the compost today, cleaned the gutters, mowed the grass, took down the neting in front of the kitchen window.. I think he is ready to claim his new patio back. :P Meanwhile, here is my brug that is blooming out there and one by the back fence is budded, all the salvias are going gang busters and here it is November and usually all brugs are in by now..last pic is Jewell of Opar
Wow Debra, those are some fantastic November pics. Love the Brugs. I tried them for a couple years but I had brutal aphid problems with them when I brought them in.
Keith I just keep inspecting everything after it comes in. It sits for three days inside the garage before coming in, I spray them with home and garden bug spray all over the plant and the soil and the outside of the pots. I drench with soap and water and spray miticide on them, they sit out there while that stuff does it's thing. I do have to inspect all winter long down there..
So that is what a brig looks like
Gorgeous day yesterday in Oxdrift. Too bad everything is already dead. It was 15C and lots of sunshine. Today is supposed to be more of the same.
Kitchen Reno also took a giant step forward. Quartz countertops were installed and we got our new table put together so really starting to look homey. We are going to do our first entertaining in over 5 weeks tonight. Tile flooring should be 100% done early in the week then onto backsplash glass and metal mosaics. It is really starting to look like there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
Keith
Yes, we've had unusually good temps this time of year. All things aren't dead yet. In fact, I'm still waiting for some seeds to mature. I also have to get out and plant some bulbs (maybe tomorrow).
I can't wait to see some before and after pics of the kitchen reno, it all sounds so good.
Beautiful Brugs and blooms Debra, It's so nice to see blooms now.
You have more ambition than I do Keith. Its finally raining here, planting bulbs, broccoli and spinach seeds; and dumping beneficial nematodes on fire and hills tomorrow. I hope
Gypsi, I'm surprised you have not grown Brugs where you are. My daughter in Seattle had a lot of Brugs that she had in the house in the winter. A terrible problem with aphids. I told her to squirt them with a strong blast of water about every other week. She did that, but had to haul them out and back into the house each time so the next year she tossed them all. However she did finally get rid of the aphids because the egg cycle finally ran out. jen
Keith meant to asks you why you went with quartz counter tops. I have been looking for some time. I ruined the ones in my kitchen, which were laminate, I set a hot pan on it. Thought someone was shooting at me and ducked real fast, looking around, and finally looked at the pan and picked it up. Had 2 large holes in the laminate. Thats ok tho, I didn't like it anyway. But, everything I like is very expensive. I found out that granite has to be sealed every 3 or 4 years or it will absorb the bacteria you use in cooking. I did see a man-made product at Home Depot I liked. It looked like Granite, but didn't need the sealing etc. Might start looking again but my counters are about 24 feet total. Very expensive, no matter what I get. Then there's the back splash. Robin what did you get? jen
Thanks for the invite Robin . I wasn't sure whether before and after pics of a kitchen reno would be considered acceptable on this website, but now that I've had the invite it will definitely happen when all is finished. I am very proud of the changes so far
Keith
We do want to see your finished Kitchen, Keith. Our kitchen is the "before" pic u see when you go to lowe's and look at things that show before and after. But, that is okay with us, we don't entertain. LOL Got the last if the EE's in, emptied about 8 huge tubs of stuff and put the old soil onto the garden patch. raked down the compost pile and watered it. ( no rain here for quite awhile) . Joe is going to go look for rust remover, I guess the green poles I had in the patio tubs rusted out inside and caused huge rust stains on the new cement. *sigh* I hate it anyway! LOL
here are some propagation results from seeds and cuttings started at various times of the year. Roots busting out of everything.. The cestrum is about 4ft tall in that little cup LOL Firespike, chi-chi, cestrum, texas red star hibiscus all did well, out of all these cups I had three "no shows no goods throw me away" cups. we had the feel of a .5 magnitude earthquake while I was downstairs tonight. I heard this clanging and knocking and banging down there, thought we had company upstairs. Joe said he thought he had put a quarter in his recliner it was shaking so bad. *sigh* dang fracking.
