Hello,
I'm in Wake Forest, NC and am looking to replace the 4' x 50' strips of pinestraw ground cover on either side of my backyard with something alive and green year-round! I'm looking for suggestions for something; full sun, evergreen, fast growing ground cover, pet friendly! We had great success with Pachysandra in NY, but NC's climate is far different and I don't think it will survive here. Thanks in advance!

I wonder if Creeping Phlox (Phlox subulata) might work for you. It is native to the eastern portion of the US. http://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?symbol=PHSU3
One site I checked said it is not poisonous to pets. It stays green for me most of the time. Once the majority of it browned in the winter, but the next spring it bounded back beautifully. Don't try to pull up the dead stuff, the roots are not very deep and easily come up.
