Can anyone tell me what this is? There are several of them in my yard
please help
It's some kind of nest, but not sure from what. How large are they and about how big are the holes? Even though the one in your pic appears to be surrounded by grass it's still kind of hard to tell the size.
Also, was the mud under the object already there or was that created along with the round object? If so the actual "nest" is probably underground and the part sitting on top is probably just the entrance.

Is this a rather wet area?
