I am trying to figure out what is happening around are maple in the front yard? Is this moles, gophers, or... something else? It appears that the mound changes slightly each day and may be growing larger. I didn't find any bugs. How do I fix the issue? I do not want to lose the tree!

Have you dug into the mound? Do you have gophers? I would be digging it out...
Well I didn't want to disturb the tree any more than it already was. If I start digging what am I looking for the determine if it is gophers?
Holes in the ground. Air around the roots, try not to chop into the root, but lots of animals use tree roots to build homes within.
