Status of Site Fixes as of February 3

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

ZM ~ The watched thread list on your home page should only show "unread" threads that you're watching. Sometimes if I don't want to have to search for a thread that I'm watching, I'll click on "Mark Unread" before I leave the thread.

I also do the same thing with older threads that would be a pain to locate again.

The active forum list is also being slow to remove the bold type after looking at a forum, but the fixes have been coming a little at a time so all is good. :o)

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

No, usually when you look at a thread it disappears from your thread watcher until there is another post. VV has mentioned issues with "clingers" also. Im not talking about the forums I'm watching.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

I've noticed that the "title" of a thread does not appear at the top when you open it up. I will check, but I know this is the case over on Plant ID - where one of the other issues is the missing SOLVED button.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

OK - this missing title seems to only be happening on Plant ID forum. I see titles here, on Trees Shrubs & Conifers, and several other forums that I visit.

Maybe it's tied into the missing SOLVED button issue...

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

Can we get a button at the bottom of the last page in a thread that takes us all the way back to HOME, instead of to the top of that last page?

somewhere, PA

That's one I would love too Gymgirl. Going straight home is something I've been missing.

I'm not an avid participant here so my apologies if already discussed... I think I lose my post when I pause to go to a prior page. I miss going back to older posts to refresh on what folks were saying. Is this on the list? A way to peruse the thread while in the middle of adding a post?

Hi Tammy, the way I do it is open a second Browser window, and access the forum from it. I keep my message window open in the first Browser. That way I don't lose my message while reading other messages in the second Browser window.

An alternate way to safeguard an investment in a message currently being composed is to hit Ctrl-A to select everything in the Message box. Hit Ctrl-C to Copy everything that is highlighted. Then, if somehow you lose everything, you can hit Ctrl-V in an empty Message box, and the stuff you saved will reappear there.

Yep - I am aware of those options. Some people actually write their message in a word doc and then snarf & paste it back. So its a bit of laziness that makes me miss the ability to just scroll back to see what folks have said as I respond. But I still miss being able to do that.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

We are aware that some threads are permanently "stuck" and we're working on that. Chillybean, was this an anomaly a few days ago, or are you continuing to experience the failure-to-post problem?

In other news, the next release (I don't have an exact ETA yet but we're close) includes having page tabs at the top and fixing the false "upload fail" on photos.

Hi Tammy,
I think it is the browser that "goes to a new page" and loses your text in the Message box. I don't think that is something that Dave's Garden can "fix". We have all had the experience of losing a large message that we were working on, and it is traumatic.

It must've been. I was able to post onto other threads just fine. Not sure what happened. I just went to the thread I tried posting to before and it went through just fine.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow...I just noticed the page numbers at the top of pages. Thank You so much!! It really makes it easier to navigate threads. :o)

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't see them, at least not on this page.

Ottawa, KS(Zone 5b)

I see them on this page. There is a 1 2 3 at the top near the left-hand side.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

But this thread only has 1 page and we are on it. I don't see them at the top or bottom. Maybe it's the iPad. But I have seen them at the bottom, when there are multiple pages.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I do see them at the top and bottom of multiple page threads! Yaaaa!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Noy sure if this has been mentioned....
When I search the threads I have started there is a drop down menu so I can search by forum. Looks like this:
Communities > Forums
Limit to threads in which forum:

submit

It no longer works. All the threads from all the forums I started come up regardless of which forum name I submit on the drop down menu.

Maybe it is the iPad, because this thread has 3 pages on my desktop system, and we are on the 3rd page.

Odd. Only one page here, on a desktop (1280x1024).

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

I have 2 pages for this thread on my desktop. I even remember when it went to the 2nd page because my post is the top one on the 2nd page.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

I only have one page for this thread on my desktop. The post from nutsaboutnature is the last one on my page.

(Zone 5a)

I counted the number of posts on my page one and there are 40. This is what my preference is set at, whether I set that myself, or if that is default, I do not know. Check your preferences and see if it is anything but 40.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

I just checked, Chillybean, and my preference is set for 60. Thanks for reminding us that we have that choice. I'd long forgotten that!

Just noticed too that there is a choice to Auto Watch Threads. I have that checked and it seems to work.
"When you post in the forums, the system will automatically add the thread to your watch list if this box is checked."

That Preferences thing solves the mystery! My Preference is set at 20 messages per page, and I am now on the 4th page. Good catch, Chillybean.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Just your info, I have 4 pages of this thread on my desktop.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

My preferences are set at 40. I honestly don't remember if I set it there by choice. If I did, It would have been a long time ago. It seems a reasonable amount, but maybe one of these days I'll play around with a larger number of posts.

For now I'm fine with that amount.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Lol, that's funny. I guess we aren't on the same page! Hehe

somewhere, PA

I had a couple posts show a very odd date and went to start of thread.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

I found a new feature... thread destruct. (Let's see if it works here too!) I tried to reply to a thread in the Plant ID forum. First time after posting the thread vanished for a few minutes and then reappeared without my post. The second time I tried replying to the thread (and even did a preview before posting) the thread vanished and has yet to reappear. I checked the forum in both Firefox (my usual browser) and Chrome (which I never use for DG) and the thread is gone.

Raleigh, NC(Zone 7b)

I checked my Firefox history and found a link:

I'm going to try to attach a screen clip showing the bizarre timestamp.

I replied to that, it posted fine, and rides atop the Plant ID forum with the BC time stamp.

I killed it again, at least for me. After your reply, I posted another reply and caused it to vanish from the forum.

Not sure what is going on here but it appears to be a DG site problem. I checked the site from my old Android tablet (had to wait a while for the battery to charge). I've never logged into DG from this device. But still the Plant ID forum doesn't show the OP's thread.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

It must be a gremlin in your machine. I can see it (it shows up as a reply on my Watched Threads) and altagardener has a snarky reply too.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

That date thing is odd..I have found it on various threads and on my thread watcher. I can see the above mentioned thread snarky remark and all. Lol

I've alerted the lead tech to it, but it appears to be a single anomaly. If anyone else spots a similar timestamp issue, let me know and I'll file it as an error ticket for them to investigate.

somewhere, PA

That's part of the error I posted about. Link to the whacky date post 13hrs earlier on this thread. Date stamp was negative time and post went to the top of the thread I was posting on instead of next in order of posting.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

We have had the same problems happening on the Texas forum as well.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Terry, on my post that is right above yours, I wrote that the date Issue is/was on various threads including my thread watcher.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

What happened to the times posted? No more hours shown? I hope we get the old times back.....

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Quilter5 -- The time posted showed up in your post but not on the previous ones. Odd.
