I am glad that someone else sees the problem. When I could not see any of the little icons, it ended up being something I blocked rather than the site having another bug. I was wondering if this was the same kind of thing. That is odd about "Madison". Hmm...
Your "Osprey" is pretty. :) Maybe it will send another one off your path somewhere.
Status of PlantFiles issues
PF has gotten so wierd and unhelpful I hate trying to use it. If I google, I get IB ads without any helpful data now. IB sites as well.
I use DuckDuckGo as my search engine and if I have the Latin name, the plant file I want is at or near the top.
https://duckduckgo.com/
Having to use an external search engine to find something, when a site has an internal search feature, seems like a good idea? Does that seem like a functional website? I get "shots" because people think I'm looking for perfection. I'm simply looking for functional, and this place is FAR from acceptably functional! We've all had to come up with our own work-arounds for almost SIX MONTHS now, because the *cough* powers-that-be can't fix what they screwed up. Admins are non-existent. I'm sure they're probably tired of getting beat up over this fiasco, but ya know what? That's part of the position! Get over it and deal with the issues, or step down! IB posted two months ago, and haven't returned to let anyone know what's being done to fix things since. The communications from the admins is as horrendous as the site itself, has become.
But doesn't that really make you wonder what is really going on here? What business that wants to stay in business, acts like this when their business is collapsing?
The total lack of involvement here of anyone is all too bizarre.
I was looking at the Internet Brands website last night to see if the DG had been sold but could not find even 1 mention of DG. Perhaps we are a ghost site now cast off into sea of the internet on our own. LOL
Terry started a new thread about the writing contest, a couple of days ago. I thought this was strange bc Admin hasn't checked into the other thread in weeks. It never used to be like this, even with IB, admin was always on top of things.
I'm not even sure who/what "Internet Brands" is... I'll try to remember to find out tomorrow. I suspect the BBB would be a good place to start. It might be a good idea, also, to see what other sites they own. It wouldn't be the first time a large company (if that's what they are) bought other sites just to eliminate competition.
The fix it thread on this forum has already discussed BBB. IB has owned DG since 2010, at least. From what I've read on DG IB has a bad record with the BBB, but that still doesn't explain where Terry and Melody are. The thread Im referring to has been posted on recently.
At the bottom of this page it has a link to them. http://www.internetbrands.com/
Posting to unstick.
Really not sure if this a "File" issue or forum... I am not sure anyone is paying attention to bugs or anything, but at least I try to explain this if anyone runs into a post that looks like it has one more comment than it really does.
I comment on the bird file images now and again. Here is the link they show up on:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/birdfilespics/all/
If you notice the top one, American Woodcock, it says 2 replies. There is only ONE. I thought I was logged in when I left the comment, but when things looked "off" I found that I wasn't. I had been able to go through all the steps, so it didn't register right away.
When I did get myself logged in and went to the homepage, the Watched forum list showed the BirdFiles photos were updated and when I clicked to see the forum, there was American Woodcock at the top, showing ONE reply. When I clicked on it, there were actually ZERO. I then went ahead and left the comment I tried to earlier.
I have no idea where the other "comment" went and why it shows up as part of the count. There is the small text saying to log in or sign up to comment, but then why is the comment form visible before someone is logged in? Not a biggie, but it seems odd.
Not sure if I should even bother commenting here or actually anywhere on this forum since I see no Admin response since 3/7 on here, the GHOST site we seem to now be, but I will being forever hopeful fixes will be made at some point though NONE seem to have been made to date..............
I just noticed there seems to be no way for me to edit the synonyms I added to PlantFiles. And sadly I erred in my last entry several times.
Also to note again just in case someone cares, there still is no way to alert Admin of an error on the specific plant page entries. For some unknown reason the box which houses "Report an error" was never added to the one page where I would think most errors are made in Plantfiles.
Example http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/235084/
You have to go back to the main page of PlantFiles http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/ to find the box that houses the "Report an error" link. Then you have to copy the web address of the page where you found the error and delete the wrong web address link already on the report page and replace with correct one. http://davesgarden.com/helpdesk/pf/?report=error&where=/guides/pf/ BIZARRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or at least I cannot find one!\\
I wonder if I swore if someone in Admin would miraculously arrive to chastise me and also hopefully explain what is going on with this site. Where is Admin? Why are they absent? Why do they not respond to any member's comments on all the active threads on this forum?
Is the site about to be closed? I think we deserve to know. I am thinking I should stop adding to PlantFiles if it is. Why waste my time?
I think they are all gone - and forgot to close the door and cut off the lights.
Is it just me, or is this just so bizarre? LOL What is going on?
It occurred to me maybe Admin is on strike. But shouldn't they tell us they are and what their issues are?
The site is in crisis it seems to me. But no one is addressing it.
They post a new thread when they slam us with new upgrades, then they abandon us to our queries. No longer sure if they bother to answer until they think the dust is settled on their changes...
I suspect the former admins (Melody and Terry) are either: 1) just as frustrated as we are and have given up; 2) kept in the dark about everything, so have no idea how to respond; or 3) are no longer admins as IB (alisonrose) has decided that they will handle everything.
Whatever is happening... there is no response from IB in any of the site update forums nor is there any response to D-Mail reports of problems.
Someone mentioned "Blog" date problems... I don't use that feature, so I don't know. I *do* know that just about everything related to dates in your Journal is totally screwed. Manual addition of an item in a category, editing an existing item, adding an entry to an item and adding a Milestone all result in a date of 12/31/1969.
Just a warning... if you have a journal here, don't even try to do anything useful with it. I've reported the problem through D-Mail. but have yet to receive even an automated "we have received your report" type response as other sites send, much less than any indication that the problem is being worked on.
On 4-26-16 Terry started a thread, on this forum, about the writing contest. Yes, I think it's very bizarre.
Since my husband works with computers, I tell him about the happenings here. I mentioned that maybe they want to keep this going with the resent forum update, but he mentioned that it could have been an update within all their sites and not specific to here, just a by-product.
Since getting into native plants, I need to know what seedlings, newly emerging plants, seed pods, etc. look like and think it would be helpful for others. I started taking pictures of some of my plants to upload, but yes, I wonder if I should bother.
I'm sure that they probably did update PHP on all of their sites, and they are probably just as messed up. I did a lot of PHP programming many years ago as a hobby. I had a full "web server" set up running Apache/PHP/MySQL, but only for our home network. Every time I updated one of the major components I had to manually inspect and edit one or more configuration files as they were overwritten by default configuration files during the upgrade. Maybe it was just an "oops" on this site, or maybe on other sites as well. It would explain the totally bogus dates which are making my journal impossible to update... same as the Blogs.
I tried some emails to Melody and Terry using the contact us way to them, but got no response. That was quite a while ago tho. Didn't surprise me.
I did get a real scolding (blast) from them tho, can't remember, think it was Terry when I made the mistake of wondering if they were looking for other jobs. Maybe you ought to try that. Seems to really tick them off and wake them up.

Just wondered if you all have the feeling of, what's the saying, "a ship with no rudder"?
Not sure who is getting the DMails via the "Contact Us" link. I would assume it's someone from Internet Brands. They completely ignore bug reports.
