A few years ago I purchased some Cyclamen persicum aka florists cyclamen from a local grocery store and they did quite well in my home, which had no central heating and was therefore pretty chilly in the winter.
I purchased some seed (which seems to be pretty hard to find and was expensive) and was wondering what my success would be growing it indoors now that I live somewhere with heat lol. I know they prefer cool temperatures but my house stays around 73 degrees and since I only have a limited amount of seed I was wondering if I would be able to get them to grow and bloom at these temperatures even though I know they would be less than optimal. Thanks in advance for any help!
Growing Cyclamen Indoors With Warm Temps?
First, you have to successfully grow the plants from your seed. I don't know how difficult that is; they seem to readily grow from seed in the garden. You can grow cyclamen indoors but they do spend half the year as brown bumps in a pot.
Obviously I have to get them to germinate before they will grow at all... The question was trying to establish whether I would be able to successfully GERMINATE and then GROW them at the temperatures I stated.
I don't understand why you would even bother commenting essentially saying nothing. It's the equivalent of someone saying " hey would I be able to make this cake if baked it at this temperature instead of what's recommended on the box?" and then someone replying " well first you have to mix the ingredients and even then it will just be a bunch of batter until you put it into the oven." Seriously, don't comment if these are the kinds of nonsensical responses you're going to give.
Wow, no need to be rude.
Your query was two-fold - how do I germinate these seeds, and can I grow this plant in my current conditions.
Your second question was answered - yes.
Some useful info was also provided towards your first question, namely that they self-seed easily outdoors in some conditions. Rather than responding offensively, you might have asked what those conditions were, since that's what you're trying to find out.
