Canna help, what to do when they are are in plastic pots!

Quartz Hill, CA(Zone 8b)

Hello,
Please, need help! I live in zone 8b and grow Canna's in the ground with no problems at all. But last week I bought about 5 Canna's at Lowes for a buck each. They are in the regular plastic pots any new plant comes in. The leaves just are dying off but I heard that they will rot if left in these plastic pots? I don't know to just put them in the garage that's unheated or if I have to plant them in the ground asap?
Thank you very much for any help or where I should post this question in.

Lisa, if I were you, I'd unpot those Canna's and take a look at the root system to see if there's anything untoward going on with them. The plant could be pot bound and not able to take up water, or it could have been watered excessively and starting to rot. If they're potbound, gently loosen the root system and or trim. If the root system is solidly in the shape of the pot, take a clean knife and sore the roots from one side, across the bottom and up the other side. Do this twice in an X pattern and carefully tease some roots to encourage them to grow out instead of around inside of a pot. Plant outside and water thoroughly.

If there is rot, cut the mushy portions off the root and plant outside. If there is crown rot, I don't think there is much you can do. It can't hurt to try and just plant them outside. Your zone is fine for overwintering Canna's.
