It is weird isn't it Gypsi, how people can't seem to find the time or money to go have that done, and yet they have to take care of the bigger dogs thru the pregnancy etc. Oh, but not if theirs is the male. You're right.
Do you think what you have now might be side affects from some of those shots JU? I sure hope you get over it soon. I don't like to see people feeling bad. I know, I don't have to look at you, but I feel for you anyway. I will sure be glad when we get over the holidays. Will then hope to wait for the end of this snow and see some spring. All the low temps on the calendar tonight on the news showed almost zero everywhere on this side of the state. Kitt is getting out of here just in time. 'wish I were sitting in the jump seat of her truck. Bob is sure not feeling good. He never says a word, but I sure can tell. He has had to shovel snow a lot lately and he is too heavy to do that. It's easy to say maybe it is good and he might lose some weight, but not good. Too many heart attacks happen that way.
I told him tonight to get someone else to do it, I paid a young man to help me work in the yard a couple years ago. For some reason he is too stubborn to call him to shovel snow. And the guy could use the money. Oh well, we'll see. jen

Fort Worth, TX

one thing at a time. I fixed my own roof - well mostly - last week. I could pay someone but I am familiar with what is wrong with it, it's just a find the little tiny hole at the top and swipe tar on it, and I had the stuff. I would NOT shovel snow probably. I would hire it done. But you know. explaining that my time and health are worth more than the cost would not have worked with my exhusband which is why he got exxed. I was going to age, and get in worse shape eventually and it would be best If I was free to hire a repairman instead of living with broken junk or hurting myself trying.

All puppies gone. such a relief, and got her applied for spay on the 2 that need fixed, for free. That's a good day. Good night ya'll

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

good night Gypsi ... yep , you sound Texas ..

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

So glad you took care of the pups Gypsi. And the roof!! It is sometimes so easy to do it yourself when you know what the problem is. There are people who need the money and are young enough to shovel the snow. Young and healthy too. Wow, what a combination that is. Good night you all. Will wish you a Happy New Year tomorrow, New Years Eve. nite, jen

I'm all for hiring help if it's beyond my abilities.

On the other hand, a woman a few blocks north of me hired a young man and woman to rake her leaves a few weeks ago. I don't know why she allowed them in the house, she did not know them, but her house has now been broken into twice in the past week. After the police had been out for the second robbery, we received about an inch of snow overnight. The woman went to take her trash out and found fresh footprints in the snow. In other words, the robbers had been back three times. The woman now has burglar bars on her basement windows and is looking for a large dog. I'm just glad she didn't have a gun because it probably would've been lifted too. Or maybe she did and it was well hidden. The really scary part is the fact that she was home, asleep, every time. She is convinced it was the people she had hired because, on their first uninvited visit, they only took things from the rooms they have been in.

The good thing to come out of all of this is that all of the neighbors in the surrounding areas have been informed and are now making it their business to look out the windows at night. The police have been given a detailed description so hopefully they will catch these people. Sadly, I guess the moral of the story is don't let anyone in the house that you don't know.

Gypsy, years ago I had a dog that was terrified of storms. I know what you're going through.

Ju, it is great to see you back to your 'normal' self. Hee-hee.

I hope everyone has a great New Year's!

Fort Worth, TX

I have about 300 pounds of dogs and don't let anyone in the house except neighbor I have known for 15 years and her rarely

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Obviously the woman lives alone. That is scary isn't it Robin. Maybe she didn't let them in the house. They might have followed her in without her knowing it. Turn around and there they were? Terrible that you have to have bars put on all the windows etc. They think they went in thru the basement windows? My sister's office was broken into one year and a brand new computer that had just been delivered was taken. The cops followed the footsteps in the snow that went across the highway right into their house and the cops wouldn't go in. Said there was no proof. Can you believe that? Country cops for you.
Anyone watching that big hotel in Dubai fire? It is terrible. I guess every floor above the 20th floor is burning. They must be able to fight every floor below the 20th. Doesn't sound like they have any laws about sprinkler systems in the rooms. In the "common" areas only. I suppose that means like restaurants, stores, bars, etc. But not in the rooms!! When I was working, the regulations for the federal workers was that we couldn't contract with a hotel for gov't workers to stay in while on duty that didn't have sprinkler systems. I think most cities now have laws "codes" that require them in most public buildings. In this country.

(Patti) Wichita, KS(Zone 6b)

Jen, I guess They could've followed her in. She didn't say that on the TV interview though so I'm thinking she would have if she had turned around and they were standing there. She was not shy about how violated she felt and how angry she was. She looked down the basement stairs and saw a light on that she knew should not be on. Yes, the basement window was broken and glass was shattered all over her floor.

In my area, it seems that about 40% the people live alone. There are a lot of widows or widowers and people who have managed to hang onto their home after a divorce. It's an older neighborhood with lots of bungalow style houses. Most have basements and I have burglar bars over three windows. I will be having the other two done next week, if I can get my brother to come over here and do it for me. My house was broken into twice, through the same basement window both times, but that was two owners and 30+ years ago. The burglar bars went up after the second robbery and only on the windows they thought were vulnerable. Up until now, I have agreed with their reasoning but now I would rather be safe than sorry. Frankly though, I sure wouldn't want to meet my dog under those circumstances. He has protected me before and he scared the you know what out of me! I could barely control him and, given the circumstances, was very afraid I was going to get sued if my dog bit. I ended up telling the individual that it was very obvious that my dog was not liking him and he had to leave. He did, post haste!

I've had the fire in Dubai on. I can't believe that they're still shooting off the fireworks. Things really are done differently and other countries, are they not? What I'm hoping is it no one was trapped up there. I would think it would be an excellent spot to view the fireworks from.

I just took mom's dog to the groomers and I forgot to bring her coat. I had better get off and see what I can devise to wrap around that little girl when I pick her up...it's cold here.

I didn't see #5 JU until just now. Wonder why it wasn't on the same line with the others. They don't seem to mind the cold at all. How cold is it there? We have over a foot of snow, trees are covered, Our drive way is so long people park at the bottom and walk up. Not good, but there is no place else to put the snow. Don't know what Bob is going to do the rest of the winter if it keeps up like this. My niece and her family just spent over a week at my sister's. They re from California, so they all had quite a lot of fun in the snow. They don't normally get that. All the kids, some were in college, youngest is in highschool, so they went skiing, learned to split wood, cleared the driveway with the four wheeler and a blade, played football in the snow, made snowmen, you name it, whatever kids can imagine doing. Also helped with Christmas dinner. A big vacation in the country at Grandma's. LOL, guess they did have fun. That is good. Also went to the casino at the Indian reservation. Some were old enough, the others that weren't did the rest of the stuff. She had a big houseful and now on to Costa Rica for the rest of the winter.

Jen 21 degrees outside now ,, Gunfire , fireworks ,
After Midnight ,, here it is welcome to ta da !!! 2016 !!!

Happy New Year!

Fort Worth, TX

had intermittent gunshots and fireworks all night, bout drove my dogs nuts. Glad that is over (although there will be a few firecrackers a day until everyone runs out of them) At least this year we have had rain. In drought years we had to sit fire watch

hope to get my bookkeeping done and set up a couple of jugs for winter sowing, going to be in the 30's at night for a while.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

My gosh, would love 30s at night. Or days for that matter. All the areas around us were close to zero last night. I don't have a thermometer that tells the low for the night. Used to, and I really liked it. Did you notice we have a new column? For how many replies. I wondered how we could tell how many there were.
Bob just went down to check the end of the driveway. Not sure for what, probably to see if anyone got stuck and tore it up etc. Sure makes it hard for us when people with big tires etc. drive in it. They make a mess of it. Big tires and 4 wheel really do tear it up.
Candy has big black circles around her eyes a lot lately. Don't think she feels very good. Will have Bob take her to the vet next week if she isn't better. Are you turning the eggs Gypsi??

Wonder where Debra is. Haven't heard from her for quite a while. MUst be in the basement. Spending time with Gemel I'll bet. Well, guess I'll go look around for a bit and see if I notice anything else like the last format. jen

Fort Worth, TX

I am turning the eggs, but the temp drop in the house cooled the incubator and I think they have been at about 97 or 98 for a day or 2 without me knowing it. I didn't get a thermostat hooked up, family stuff then the pups across the street distracted me. Minding it today while I get my bookkeeping switched to a new quickbooks file and done. This is not going to be fast but I want it to be accurate. have the weekend. AT least today and tomorrow I think.

our 30's in winter maybe nice but our summers are very HOT and the lows at night over 80 a lot.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Gosh I hope you didn't lose them Gypsi. That would be a real shame.
I know none of us have perfect weather. We have only about 10 or 15 inches of snow, but it is really cold. Down to about 5 degrees at night. I don't mind that as long as the power says on. We have electric heat. I do wish we would get more snow in the mountains high. Might not have the wildfires in the summer if we had a good snow pack up there. Thinking we should be getting a new propagation thread going. jen

(Patti) Wichita, KS(Zone 6b)

Jen, i changed the settings from watch to and unwatch, back to watch, back to unwatch, and then back to watch. Now it's working fine.

I am finally watching the Rose Bowl Parade, which I recorded yesterday. I am so disappointed in the NBC coverage. Way, way too many commercials, very few real close-up shots, although they did a nice job of capturing pictures of the entire float. My DVR will record multiple stations at once and I thought I had set it to record on one of the other major networks too. I was wrong.

I'm planning on starting to cut up my milk jugs on Tuesday. Hopefully, I will have seeds planted by Wednesday afternoon. I was beginning to wonder if we were actually ever going to get winter. I'm still not sure, but at least the temperatures are in the 40s now instead of the 60s, the way they were a week and a half ago. I must have 200 jugs in the basement. Reality set in and I think I'll probably only use about 40 of them. I might change my mind again though and increase that number. LOL it would be so much easier if I had someone to help me. That, and a larger yard.

Have a great day everyone!

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Gee Patti, what do you plant in that many jugs? Do you plant one seed per jug, and then just use that for their pot until you plant them in their permanent home? That's a good idea. Especially for tomatoes and you can just keep adding potting mix to get a longer and stronger root. I'll be right there to help you. >smile<
Do you normally get a lot of snow? Wonder where Debra is. Our weather is suppose to warm up this week. That will sure be nice. It was 7 degrees when Bob got up he said. Suppose to be in the mid 20s at night this week and high 30s during the day. Gosh, maybe we will get more snow. It would be nice to get more higher up in the mountains to build up for a snow pack. Might not have the wild fires like the last couple of summers. It gets so dry when we don't have a lot of snow in the winters. Well, time for my coffee, ttyl jen

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Have a great, happy and healthy New Year everyone...

I'll try not to cough or sneeze on anyone, I'm on the mend now. I think I caught it from Ju. It could have been from the grandchildren though (more likely), two out of of the three came sick. They all left healthy four days later and was a little easier on their parents to deal with.

Jen, I just drank my coffee with you, thinking too that Bob should take it easier shoveling snow, especially with such a long driveway.

I miss Debra, I'm sure she found some new friends...whaaa.

Patti, please tell Debra she's missed next time you see or chat with her. Have fun with WS, I should think about doing some soon too. I hope you have much success and are blessed with an abundance of seedlings come spring!

Gypsi, congrats with the pups, you sound like a workaholic. I too hope the eggs are okay and can tolerate a bit of temperature fluctuations. After all, I imagine they do in the wild.

Boy, I had a bit of reading to catch up...whew!

(Patti) Wichita, KS(Zone 6b)

Robin, I certainly will tell Debra the next time I talk with her. I haven't seen her around either since just before Christmas. I'm glad to hear you're on the mend. It's no fun being sick.

Jen, I have a mix of about half perennials and half annuals. Some people actually dump a whole package of seeds in one milk jug. I will be holding some back just in case they don't sprout. I am going to be planting everything from delphiniums to gaura to poppies, zinnias, several kinds of milkweed, tithonia (spelling), echinacea, cosmos. I also have several kinds of morning glories and Viola's. I have more varieties of seed, but I know I'm going to be putting these in for sure. I'd be happy to accept your help; come on down.

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Sounds wonderful Patti, I hope you post pictures and share your experience. I'm especially looking forward to seeing your Viola's, I find them interesting.

I'll post mine too.

(Patti) Wichita, KS(Zone 6b)

It's a deal, Robin. I only have a camera on my phone and on my tablet but the tablet does not have flash. Don't ask me why not, I don't know. I have never done this before so I'm looking forward to it. I guess it is bringing out the mad scientist in me. LOL

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Wha ha ha...lol!

My best camera is on my phone too, it's just as good as my point and shoot, or better. You don't need a flash if the lighting is good. Just anchor your arms or hands to reduce shaking. We do have some exceptional photographers on DG and one of these days, I'll be a contender.

Okay, let the games begin.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Could be that Debra just took some time off over Christmas and New Years and might be on here soon. I sent an email to Sharon about not showing up around here too. So, hopefully we will get a little action out of some of them. Before Christmas my niece brought me some things she made, So unusual, she saw them in a craft shop in Arizona. They were glass shower blocks she put Christmas lights in (the little ones) and wrapped them like packages. Really very pretty. 2 different sizes. I didn't know they made those things in different sizes. jen

From The Technologically Incompetent ) only saying Hi all ,, lol ( I spelled all that correctly though ...A daily First ) lol

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I really don't want to lose this thread you guys. It is a good one. And might be our only contact with Debra. Hope she is ok. Anyone have an email address for he?
If so, don't bug her, but might send her a message asking her if she is ok. Maybe she is sick like everyone else. Give it a try. jen

(Patti) Wichita, KS(Zone 6b)

I already sent Debra a Dmail. It's not unusual for Debra to disappear for a while. Then again, Jen, you could send her a dmail to let her know you're missing her. (Grin)

(Patti) Wichita, KS(Zone 6b)

I know that Debra is taking care of her neighbors dog again. That's probably keeping her very occupied. I'm going to be getting NikkI, my neighbors dog, on Tuesday. It's always an adjustment for both the dogs and the dog sitters. LOL

Patti you are right. I don't know if I have her address right. Will see if I can figure it out. Thanks for reminding me. jen

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

OK Patti, got it. hope she doesn't think I am being nosy. That would be terrible. Really not. I just hope she is busy but ok. So many of you all are not feeling very well now. Seems every post is someone not well. Like yourself. Are you on your way to the vet? Don't give Noodles or your mom the sniffles. jen

(Patti) Wichita, KS(Zone 6b)

You are not the only person to ask about her, Jen. She posted about two sentences on another thread and said that she pretty much slept the weekend away. Also said she would try to post from work today but didn't get it done apparently.

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

That Furrraheydra doesn't look menacing at all, one heck of a propagating trick growing two heads.

Good luck getting a hold of Debra...

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

OK Robin, what is that you just said? Not even going to cut and paste it. It was a JUism. Right?

Patti, how is your mother's cat, or dog , you were taking to the vet. Could have just said Noodles and not had to admit I couldn't remember if it was a cat or dog. jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Robin how's the Cold I gave you ,, sounds like it might be better ,? I have to much wax in one of my ears now (always some little something it seems
Jen JUIsm ,,? is that like a truism ,,, or some new religious cult I am not up to date about ?
