Well Kitt, one of these days you will be retired and have every Christmas at home. One of these days. >smile< Then you can enjoy all those grandkids and teach them to garden. It really does work out that way. When do you get all the results of your medical tests? How long does that take? Time is ready for you to hang it up soon. jen

Fort Worth, TX

Garland Texas took the worst of a tornado tonight. Waxahachie and Desoto got it too. I and mine are ok

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

So glad to hear that Gypsi. How are those eggs doing? Can't remember how long you said it took to hatch. I just hate it when my memory goes blank. That is really bad. Can't wait to hear what you have. Do you know how to sex them? Tell what they are? Probably not for a while?

Well, going to read for a bit and then go to bed. ttyl, jen

Fort Worth, TX

The first batch of eggs are just chirping away this morning, my little fuzzy butts are getting wing feathers. Only 5 made it. The next dozen is due to hatch around January 12th and they should all make it. Built a better incubator.
The red room is my brooder cage, dog proof and cat proof and towels adjust airflow, red light is the heat. They are drinking from a drinking water bottle over the bowl of gravel. Much more sanitary than bowls of water

Sorry about the Tornado havoc, thoughts and prayers to those that were hit. I'm so glad you and yours are safe Gypsi. Thanks for posting pics and updating us on your brood. I'd be cuddling them for sure. If I were a farmer I'd be vegetarian...I get too attached. Kids and animals make me weak.

Ju that's a lovely bunch of seeds you have there, lot's of work to keep you off the streets. I had the pleasure of cleaning some of your seed and came across some beauties I haven't seen before. I love looking at seeds, I don't think I'll ever tire of that!

Fort Worth, TX

Oh that is some chicken Ju. I need to sort seeds and start nuts but cooking, dog tending and. Computer work came first

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Robin Thank you for compliment about the seeds . Occasionally I will run down on cleaning seeds ,but truly tire I do not believe I ever will , The nice feeling when some of the seeds even look better than purchased , a rather bit of a thrill , it is ,, Must be the Anarchy thing ,,lol
Really I am a gizmo gadget thing ,

Beginning a bottle greenhouse cold frame
Grinder shredder all together
Must be spring dreaming subconcious lol
Salvia stalks , with seeds .

I hear ya Ju about seed cleaning, luckily it's something you can put down and pick it back up later. I'm thinking it would be better to work at cleaning seeds on a higher table. Not so I'd feel like a kid again, just so my neck doesn't get a kink in it looking down for so long (I guess that would be quite the opposite...so I don't feel so old when I've had enough). Nice bottle greenhouse, it sure looks interesting and completely techie.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Robin it is real simple not techie at all.. Bottles super glues to start with , Because of the vase shaped bottles I will use the creteclay , to fill the spaces but it takes 7 or 8 days about for that to dry and about the same to seal ,
But I can put these together in 3's or 6 's and finish in spring , I miss out on my cold frame Jan , Feb greens that way ,, oh well
Taller ones Four or five tiers tall put around a Tomato in a bucket can give me two or three months more of tomato plants some seasons ,( I like that idea ,)
I wanted to do this a long time ago , but Forgot ,, oops ,,, lol ???
Good cold frame for starting outdoors I can sure go for and use ,,

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

JU, can't figure out your bottles. JU, have you ever tried the Bondic? It advertises a thousand times stronger than Gorilla glue. You put it on and then use the light to set it. I bought 2, one for Bob and another for myself. Neither of us have tried it. Anyway, it won't set until you put the light on it. But then it sets immediately. I don't have any idea how far it will go, etc. Do you ever look at Grommet? I bought it off there. People sell individual gadgets etc. on there. Some of the stuff is quite interesting. Just Grommet.com. Jen

BTW, is that little chicken MIngles? Looks kind of, but I thought she was more black than tiger/tabby. jen

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

One more thing you can do JU, you know the water bottles Culligan delivers to offices or wherever? Well, if you have one of those vendors near you, they have all the ones they take back and don't reuse them, they normally put them all in one place and most don't care if you take them. Some are broken so you have to be careful and look them over. Cut the bottom out and they fit right in a 5 gallon plastic bucket. Make great green houses for tomatoes, or??? jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Good ideas Jen ,I will look through ,

That was the male , mingles is about playing in and out of here twice tonight ,

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I thought that possibly as they get older their color starts to set more. Kinda like baby's eyes. I heard one time that all babies started out with blue eyes and then at a certain age they changed to the permanent color. Don't know if that is true or not.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I don't know if that is true either

I will return , here's mingles today

Gypsi my chickens are free (you know that) you have heard of .(chick -a -flicks) Chick -n -Biscuit ,) Chick-n Wings) .. These are ( Kitt-n-Chicks Paw-n-Claw #48 statesbreed)) A wingless breed that does not cook well , better for Hawk, Coyote , wild animal food ) he , he ,

I kind of thought so Ju. I have a litter of pups that aren't mine to either place or they will go to the pound, from which they will probably not come out alive. keeping me a bit busy, will check in, in a day or 2

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

That Mingles is just like my cat Tiger. Has to sharpen his nails on the furniture, the molding in the bathroom, the molding on the deck door. I cut her toenails today tho, so that might slow her down some. First time I have done it and she really didn't mind. So, we'll see. jen

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

You might try that JU,. Especially while she is young. Tiger is at least 4 years old and she didn't mind. As long as I didn't waste any time about it. She didn't care for me holding her paws for a length of time. I just had to be careful not to cut too deep.
Going to get cold this week. I don't mind as long as the power stays on. Can't stand to have the heat off. down to 9 degrees Wednesday night. That is cold. jen

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Sure wish I could transfer my camera pictures to my computer and send some to you. I would show you how the water bottles from Culligan work with the 5 gallon buckets. My sister just put them over her broccoli plants in her garden, and within a week or so she had big, gorgeous plants. But before she got back out there they had bolted. Yeah, they work real good. Well, tty tomorrow, jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Jen one of those things that works to well ? oh well , boiled greens it is ,,
I won't their toenails as long as their outside mostly , need those out there , they do

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Good idea about the Culligan water containers Jen, thanks. My cats also need their claws to climb outside and defend themselves. If they forget they're indoors, I reprimand them with a noise and a poke in the shoulder (like their Mom would), they think it's a bite. I got that from the propagation show 'The Dog Whisperer' and have successfully used those techniques with all my animal raising.

Having said that, I'd definitely cut the nails if they were too stubborn to respect the furniture...even when the stuff needs to be replaced. In this house, furniture is the last thing that gets replaced.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

First time I have seen a page number. Also first time I have seen them split a word like Robin's last post. Also a first was "read more' or "read less". Robin you had 3 firsts. How did you do all that? I have a dr. appt. this morning and I'm about ready to throw up. Just drank a whole 16 oz bottle of water. Think that did it. But if I do, I will lose my pills I took with the water.
I only cut the tip of her nails off. They were so long she would get them caught in the fabric of the chairs and hang by one arm.
Well, better get started. ttyl, jen

'

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

I hope you're feeling better Jen, sorry your day didn't start out too good. Hmm, I'm not seeing what you saw in the post Jen, see how special you are!

Fort Worth, TX

I'm recruiting, I get asked too many questions about gardening that I don't know the answer to I refer them to DG.

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Oh Gypsi, what a good little marketing tool you are...I wonder how many Master Gardeners DG spawns?

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Jen, All of what you just saw in Robins post I have been seeing all along. Many of us have. The split words are 'wrapping' the sentences to fill all spaces. Page numbers are the paginators that allow you to jump to last page. Which is why long posts don't bother me anymore. My 'read more' read less folds previuos posts into a shorter space. Word of caution on dumping phone pics into your computer- it can totally mess your phone up. Give it a virus, get it hacked... don't join the 2 devices. Safer to send phone pics by signing in to phone and uploading from there- IF your phone has the available data to do it. Everyone I know survived the twisters from Tx to Al... And so far the icestorms chasing across NM, Tx, Okla, etc. Glad you are good Gypsi

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well, lost another post. Fortunately it wasn't a lot. Must be Kitt. Seems I lose them after her posts. LOL, OK you guys what did you do with JU? Leave you guys alone for a day or two and things happen. Where is he? I got an email from Sharon yesterday so maybe she is getting ready to join us. She said she has been lurking to keep up with what is going on, but not comfortable with the new format. Well, neither am I. Seems every time I come on to a forum I find new stuff. Or lose my posts. That is really frustrating. So Kitt, what you are saying is that after I close this off, the computer is going to wrap all my lines together? That will be interesting. Gypsi are you turning those little cheepers in their eggs? I can hardly wait to hear how many of this batch makes it. Hope you all had very nice Christmases. I am always glad to start the new year. The seed catalogs are pouring in fast and furious. Good year to do some winter sowing. Going to cut this off before I lose it. ttyl, jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Lot hectic , a something bug with a headache the past two days Jen , Makes it bigtime awful to read ,, I am here and about though .

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

I hear there was a lot of stuff going around, you just probably bobbed when you should have weaved...better luck next time and hope you feel better soon Ju.

Fort Worth, TX

I am turning eggs and flipping puppie from flea ridden orphans into dogs with homes (not my pups). One more gets a home, I hope, then the litter goes to Humane Society of North Texas and they will fix mama for free. Which is good neighbor is broke, can't afford surgery or pups. Getting seed catalogs but I have an entire top shelf of my refrigerator full of seeds, so except for my Totally Tomatoes catalog (it is addicting, check it out if you can find one), and maybe Sand Hills Preservation, I probably won't be ordering anything

beautiful sunny day, much to do. Who has the basement garden, is that Tucker's mom?

(Patti) Wichita, KS(Zone 6b)

Nope, that's Joeswife a.k.a. Debra with the basement garden. Glad you're finding homes for the pups. That breaks my heart that people just indiscriminately allow their dogs to breed. Have a great day!

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Bless your huge heart Gypsi and thanks for warming mine...

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Jen, my posts freeze when someone else is posting to the thread- I have to just wait and make sure the upload is TOTALLY finished before I move on. Otherwise, I only lose posts when my fat thumb can't remember which button I wanted. TOTALLY thru uploading.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Your fat thumb huh? Bet it isn't fat. Not as much driving as you do. Your thumbs have to help turn that wheel.
Wow JU, so sorry to hear that. Have you had a flu shot? Don't tell me you don't have them. I never got any either until about 4 years ago and decided I was too old to get something that might put me flat on my back where I could get pneumonia with phlegm in my lungs. Hear that JU? Pay attention.
Yes Gypsi, I go thru Totally Tomatoes also. Good company. Haven't this year yet tho. I saw Parks had a lot of their seeds up to $6 for a pack of seeds with not many in them. So, saving the seeds is the way to go. I start getting gardening fever and then I just look outside and see nothing but white and that stops me real fast. It will be quite a while before I will be putting any seeds in the ground. Guess I could do some winter sowing tho. Would have been a perfect year to have some out on the deck with snow packed around them. Well guys, Gypsi, keep those eggs rolling, Kitt, keep those tires rolling and Robin and Rusty, guess you 2 are the cheer leaders for the rest. JU, you take care of yourself. Get a lot of rest and have some chicken noodle soup. They say that is the cure. ttyl,

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I have had more shots that Fido Jen ,
I have had shots , Colds and flu still give me soreness and a headache ,,

Fort Worth, TX

The dumb factor in my neighborhood is pretty high. Most of the dogs hereabouts are fixed because I bugged people and told them where to get their dogs done cheaply. Loose dogs that are repeatedly loose, whether dumped or irresponsible owners, I do eventually call the pound. But if they try, I try. It is not a profitable operation but it makes it a nicer place to live around here if you aren't watching litters die of lack of care.
