So I thought this big pot was enough but I'm in trouble! Lots of new shoots, it's definitely hitting the edge of the pot and I got some great advice from some kind members but need help on what kind of container should I repot this in?
My main issue:
I want to get cuttings or roots to make more pots out of this bamboo plant (which I have no idea how to split this up). Can I take those new shoots and repot them?
I want to free up space so this main bamboo can breathe.
I want to use the proper soil and container.
And this thing is so huge so I would need to work in sections.
Any advice would be real great.
My bamboo needs help!
That is one happy bamboo. It will continue to grow outwards until it breaks the pot - there is no stopping a happy bamboo. Try laying the pot on its side and have someone pull back on the pot while you pull on the plant. Those old canes won't break. If it isn't too rootbound, it will fall part as you pull. If its really wedged in there, it might be more difficult.
After freeing the bamboo from the pot, cut it up. As long as each section has some roots, they will grow. Use your lopping shears and a pruning saw. Bamboo is tough stuff.
Use any good potting soil that drains well but also retains moisture. You will have to pare the bamboo down to manageable size every 3 years or so. The choice of containers is up to you but remember how fast this bamboo filled its present pot. Given time, bamboo will break any container you put it in.

Okay will do. Gonna give it a good soak and yank him out of the pot tomorrow morning. Thank you Daisy! I'm headed to Home Depot soon to get soil and containers. :)
