This was found at the base of a grass, there is only one, it is pale green/white with "paper" texture, some striation, is about 3 in long
Cocoon of some type or gall?
his must be a tough one...any ideas where to look for info on this?
Sorry. I did actually write a response but I don't see it anywhere now.
I'd say it's either a cocoon or an egg case. Plant stem galls, e.g. goldenrod gall, are usually circular in cross-section, in my recollection, as opposed to one-sided like this one.
Cocoon! Silk cocoons are generally lepidoptera, but not always.
