Ju, the flowers are beautiful. What is the white one on the first row? All the zinnias are so nice and colorful. They all are pretty.

Got a couple of questions for you. One, did you side the house yourself? I wrote on the other thread, Back Porch, about my house in Seattle I sided. Second, how come the siding behind the red geranium is red while the rest is white? Third, you had better get that soil cleaned out farther down on the siding. 6 inches minimum. You will get termites. Don't you have those critters in your area? We sure did in Seattle. Ate all the studs, etc. in one wall. I didn't find them until I was trying to put siding on the wall over the old siding and couldn't find anywhere to get a nail in to hold. Finally tore off a piece of the old siding, and there wasn't anything there. No studs. A good thing it was a closet wall. short. Otherwise it might have collapsed the whole thing. The house was a WW11 built when they used anything they could to put a house together. But, I know there had to have been more than a pile of sawdust there.

Jen This whole place is about half gone as it is , yes we get termites ,,
the white flower is an Anemone .

The remainder is see the other thread answered you there

This little idea I have had a long time , The J channel mentioned by Mipii earlier would look better than the tape .
The idea .. is two pots make the square of one and you get two plants in different pots where you would usually only have one ,
This and a half size larger , I hoping to be able to do around the large planter . Because the tape contains fiber , a good sealer they will last a while . still looking at the idea .

That is a good idea Ju, I thought you were taking a day off, chasing butterflies and cats. Your hands need a rest too. It's not nearly as enjoyable creating magic when you're sore and tired.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Thank you Mipii ,
This will set a day or so , as I decide where to set it up , I can stand on it , I can carry it ,
Done , until next year , When I will probably show it full of plants
Not bad , for four days as to me , and one more setting it and filling it ?

Last is ,busy as a bee

Lol, that's not a planter box Ju, that's a raised garden! Your H. syriacus seed pods are bigger than mine. I like your Bees.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Mipii I'm a little slow to get things done , I have baggies of seeds 2 small grocery bags high .
I will get some to you though ,
Garden is a rough mess ,

and Filling that garden box may take a few minutes ,I might divide it and put a couple bronze Fennel at either end ,

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

No rush Ju, take as long as you want. Yeah, I was thinking that garden box will take quite a bit of potting soil and at least 4 minutes, lol. Next end of season it should look fabulous.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I took it around to the flower bed in progress . knocked a couple corners off . It still looks okay but a staple gun shortly it is . lol sort of ,
Had to do some leveling , A couple of landscape 4 x4's to set it on helped tremendously ,
I also see where the bottom edges could be more solid Well i know it is not next year but here it is looking lonesome ,

Yes Robin , 4 Min . With a bucket loader , only I am loader one bucket at a time or shovel full ,
Turtle Speed !!! lol
I dug up a bunch of BES starts from here , and planted them in another locale , things as yours are everywhere .

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Hey, I've got a bucket loader just like that, I think it's the lighter-weight model. Mine's always set on turtle speed too.

It's looking good, good and level also.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I am really hoping the Bes and Coneflowers are set good for blooms next year , I hoping for lots of blooms and plants that are still alive ,
I put together several planters and pots as odds and ends , I will see how they take winter ,what stays together , just experimenting while looking for a favorite that stays .
Next year is looking okay though .
Asters mostly for fall ,
Thalictrum and bulbs in spring .
then iris and Daylily
Lilium are mostly summer ,
Baptisia
Liatris
Coneflowers ,
Yarrow
There is a phlox out there also ,

The wild chicory, goldenrod, the sunflower all bloom late with the aster and are currently . Deciding to see if they will grow together and where . the Peony I am still deciding about where they go .
Followed by the BES

JU, I think when you dig the swimming pool, you will kill two birds with one stone. >grin< Should just about fit. Going to be fun planting them. Don't forget some plants hanging down the sides and ends. Will be beautiful. I can see them now. Very colorful.

Go back thru your flowers you have posted on here and you will get tons of ideas. Because you grow mostly perennials, it would be the best place to look. Also, you might have the seeds to start over the winter and be ready to plant in the spring. When you come up with ideas send some posts out so we all can see what we have to help.

Don't forget to decide sun or shade. Where you are going to put them so you know the heights of the plants you will need. Lots to think about for something that size. But what a fun winter project!! jen

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Good idea's Jen.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

All advice is well taken Jen , only ,," I ain't digging no pools " lol
Some odds and ends going on , obvious leveling to do ,
How about wire corners , otherwise known as B.- I - C , cheapo , quick ,, lol ?
Larger plants will likely hide the planters anyway , it's a thing for now , My ideas seem to hiding from me as far as plants ,

What is that plant in the last picture JU? I really like it. jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Black eyed Susan Jen , good old Goldstrum for next years blooms come summer .

yellow is always bright and cheerful. You need to consider all of these things you post for your new planters JU.

What happened to all the cement planters? I really liked those too. Gosh JU, you have so many things going. A good variety. jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Yellow and White are intense here Jen , My musings are carrying on some ,
The other planters are there and holding together ,
I will be back in a while ,

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

my playing , the recovering moved plants the planters including used up non planters , A few not shown in there also

Things like the alfalfa in the bucket are iffy to me , after seeing fields of it , If it works a few butterflies use it , A bucket of butterflies , or tea

I see you have a start on that swimming pool JU. The grass etc will make good compost too.

JU, did the Electric Orange daylily bloom this year? I am just sick about losing mine. Wish I had known about the worms you said yours got when you had it in the house. I would have told my sister about them. She would have done something differently. I suppose if it had been planted, pot and all, in the ground and mulched, it would have been ok. Oh well. Too late now.

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Jen , as far as I know Robin Mipii is the only one who has one now ,, Feeder spilled and killed mine along with the cats pooping on it , I may have a tiny start of it remaining but I do not think so ,
Rained out here today ,,

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

So you gave each of us a fan and she is the only one left. You had better be nice to her and maybe see if you can get a fan from her, and then take better care of it. I would love to have one too, but doubt if she would split one that much like you did. That is so sad. Did you ask her about it? Jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

It was a leaf start that was growing , I do not ask anything other than if they live at all ,, I will try to make another if mine is not here , I have the notes on how I created it , If I go into my mad professor mode , I might try again ,

Mipii you need to talk with Jen , show the baby daylily , maybe ?

Gave up after it all shrank into the planter , this is the second time shrinking in , rain helps ,

Kind of hopping to it ,

Thumbnail by juhur7 Thumbnail by juhur7 Thumbnail by juhur7 Thumbnail by juhur7 Thumbnail by juhur7
Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well JU, of course it is going to "settle" not shrink. Why are you putting frogs in it.? lol. They take up room too. It will settle, fill in spots. And yes, you will have to put more in. Just that much bigger swimming pool. LOL. jen

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Well JU, at least you have your notes. Please try to make another. It was gorgeous. Jen

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I have a yellow compatible that is still growing out in the back garden , their never the same , but I can get close likely . I try every few years to make some thing .. for now setting the garden with the planters and pots is plenty..
I will get back to the plants sometime when my mind slows down and concentration is relaxing , this does not happen as often as once did , But I bet you already know that ,, lol

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Happens to the best of us doesn't it? Yes, I know that. Just keep it in mind. Jen

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Hi Jen, here's Ju's amazing H. Electric Orange. It was planted just before Ju lost his and it's not a full fan yet. As soon as It gets two fans, I will be sending one to Ju so he can have one and wouldn't have to grow more. It's pretty cute huh?

Thumbnail by Mipii
Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Truly Mipii ,I would not bother the fans at all , It obviously became susceptible to problems as however ,
Wait until it makes leaf starts like the one your showing , you will see what I mean , it did not like it's roots bothered , and since it is the leaf start type might be why , Third season likely , After that , by the fourth season , you will get three or four of exactly what you photo looks like ,Every full fan will make leaf runners ,
And Good Mommy Robin , !!!

Hey ,, weird , No third person talking this time , lol

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Okay Ju, I'll keep you posted. I have a Tomato Cage guarding it so it gets every opportunity to thrive.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Mornin' Guys, Didn't know about leaf starts. Prettty cool. Lookin' good Mipii. JU, you need to see if you can get another one going anyway. You have your notes. Worth a try. You don't have anything else to do anyway. LOL Can't you do that in between your others? Not like you have to concentrate or anything. :>)

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I do have three or four seeds from that , Yeah well time energy and remembering to water some of them to start with ,
The other when I did that as said is a great big yellow bloom that blooms about the same mid summer ,
Split from the same the cell still different ,
Besides I have difficulty reading my own notes , just have to be there I guess is the expression

Mipii Robin , I am happy and good it is growing for you ,Blooms get larger every season ,first are not usually that impressive , the third and fourth season blooms were huge , slow grower for a Hemerocallis it is , and as most it will live through anything except animals going on it ,
I have to go weed my seedling bed ,

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Some Daylily from seed The one on the right side of the first pick ,could be the Orange coming back .

3 a few Sunchokes

Melon a little smaller that a concrete block

and some lillium bulbs

Thumbnail by juhur7 Thumbnail by juhur7 Thumbnail by juhur7 Thumbnail by juhur7 Thumbnail by juhur7
(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Where did you get Helianthus tuberosus, it's been so long since I've heard about Sunchokes, almost forgot them completely? Thanks for that memory jog.

I'm having fun watching Daylilies grow, Ju yours look great, I hope that one is Electric Orange you have there. No matter, I've got your back if it's not. I also wanted to mention it's nice to see so many hoppers in your yard. I especially like that frog with the blue in the background, it looks pretty camouflaged.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

JU, I didn't know Daylilies grew those little plants like that. How many years does it take them to grow into fans? You have grown them from seeds before? So the seeds when they germinate go into those little plants?

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Mipii, I think he is growing frogs. Hope there weren't any in that planter he filled and planted. He will expect a whole bunch to come out if he did. They are really cool. Yes, good for bugs etc/

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Daylily grow root runners , seeds , or a leaf with root nodes will develop on some cane bloom stems any way to grow them ,
Mipii Robin that with the Blue behind it is a Chameleon Tree toad . They will change to several colors , I use to catch them on put them on a yellow lid , so they would turn yellow , lol
usually they stay gray or green ,
I have two big clumps of Sunchokes Robin , some are 10 or 12 years old now , easy plant to grow . sunflower bloom

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Kind of blog like this thread is , I have yellow , white and red and stargazer lillium in there with the milkweed planter , today I did five pots enough for three goldenrod , and two purple Echinacea to go into ,
I will try to put a Hibiscus ,of the dinner plate type in front of those , I really wanted to try all host plants , but obviously that is not going to happen ,
Not a lot of fall blooming plants do I have , so asters and another in the waiting
it should be nice tomorrow ,
Pots might let me move a few things around until I get it right ,looks like I am starting all over again ,

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Unless you get plants that bloom all summer and then hope that October is nice enough that it tricks them into thinking it is still summer, there aren't very many plants, other than Mums, and Asters, that bloom in the fall are there? How about some of the decorative cabbages? fall crocuses, and all the spring bulbs.
