Anyone know what this is??

I have these "weeds" growing all over my entire yard. My mother calls them bluebells, but I don't think that is really what they are. Can anyone tell me what they are? I just keep pulling them up and throwing them out in the road. Here is a link with the pictures of the "weeds" on it. Thanks!

MarthaAnn: I got to your website, but couldn't get the pictures to come up.

No, I couldn't either, but my computer wanted to eat a disc, so maybe you haven't uploaded the photos? (Not that I know anything about computers)

Gosh! Sorry about that, I checked it, and it seemed to be okay, but then after I got out of the program, I should have gone back and checked it again! (Worldnet's page maker is not compatible with the netscape composer, like I wished it was) So I have to upload everything individually. Hopefully I have got it right this time!! I really want to know what these things are, and how can I get rid of them???I have tried to dig them up, and if you don't get every little piece of the root, they come back, then if they flower, they seed all over the place(Would be nice if someone wanted them, and I could trade them for hollyhocks! (LOL!) I just checked it and it appears to be working so try it again girls!

I checked MarthaAnn and they weren't working for me. Can you post them in the photo forum? From your description it sounds like it might be ladybells (adenophora). My sister used to call them h**l's bells. They are kind of invasive - but they're a pretty weed. In the right area i think they're nice.

I HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM(OTHERS NOT ABLE TO PULL UP MY PICTURES)WHAT ARE WE DOING WRONG?I AM ABLE TO PULL THEM UP,BUT NO ONE ELSE IS!!!ANYWAY,I AM ABLE TO PULL UP THE LINK,HOWEVER IT'S BLANK.

Okay, I added one of the photos to my "have" list....just so I could get the photo on here. If you need to see a photo of the whole plant, I have one but will have to figure out how to get it loaded. I don't know what I am doing wrong but I never had this problem on Geocities, or anywhere else, it is only with Worldnet that I have this problem. I have the same problems with trying to get rid of these bluebells that I have trying to get those photos uploaded!! Sue, They must be the same thing you are thinking because I call them he*l's bells too!!! That is so funny! Seems I have been sentenced to gardener's purgatory.....the only thing I can grow successfully are those things!!!

Looks like Tradescantia (Spiderwort) to me, but I've not grown it, so I could easily be wrong. The book I'm looking in says 'it requires very little care and attention and flowers throughout the summer', which could be their way of saying 'grows like a weed'.

I just did a search of the Member's Lists, and Tj has blue spiderwort on their Have List. Maybe they could tell you if that's what it is?

Mary is right. Definitely spiderwort (tradescantia andersoniana) ~ not ladybells like I thought. A lot of new hybrids are available that aren't as aggressive as the wild type and have larger, showier flowers. I think every plant has it's place ;-) Spiderwort can be used in wild gardens where it can spread with out invading your good garden soil. I've seen it grown in nice healthy clumps where it looks great. My perennial book says it's hardy from 3-9. It's a popular plant and I'm sure you'll be able to find some eager traders that will be glad to trade with you for it. I'd just make sure you let them know it's an aggressive spreader.

As far as the pictures go.... My disc drive started running when the page loaded - like it was looking for the pictures. I think that you need to upload the pictures to a storage file and then you insert them to your page through the url of where they're stored. I don't know how you're program works but you can see them because you have them stored on your computer. They have to be uploaded to the internet before anybody else can see them. Maybe the Worldnet has a help file that can explain it.

When I went back to the picture and clicked on the properties and it's loaded directly from your file ~ file:///A|/weed1.jpg ~ It should read something like ~http://www.world.net/marthaannspage/weed.jpg Their should be some instructions on how to upload the picture to the web and then you insert the link onto the page. Not just the file.

Hmmm...you mean my "trash" might be someone else's treasure??? Well, at least now I can tell people what it is. Bluebells was such a "pretty" name, I just knew it couldn't be that! Now it has a name to match it....SpiderWORT! Now, to search member lists for someone who is looking for a two pound box of it! :-)
Sue, I really don't know what i am doing wrong with that uploading stuff, but when I have more time, I will try to figure it out so it doesn't mess everybody else up! ;-) Thanks for the help on the plant, and the pictures!

Hi, Saw the picture, it is spiderwort and a nice plant for part-shade (especially afernoon shade). I cut it back after the first long bloom and have a 2nd wave in the fall. They do spread, but if you dig them out and do not let them go to seed, you will have a better chance of control. With their grass like leaves, you could check with the garden center to see if an herbicide for grass would take care of it and not surrounding plants( last ditch measure), as I do not use chemicals. A good digging and cut back should do the job, they do have a sturdy root system.

I just learn something new! Again! lol I didn't know spiderwort grew wild anywhere. Joy

New post to an old query... I have spiderwort, both wild (blue flowers), and 2 store-bought (pink). I love them in my woodland garden, and wouldn't mind having more. My soil is so poor that they are not invasive!
