I'm thinking I want to plant some short (no more than 18 inches) sunflowers across the front of my house; area gets shaded by the house until about 2-3 pm, then gets full, unrelenting sun. I wouldn't be able to reach this are for deadheading, etc. during the growing season.
I'm thinking maybe annual types, but have heard something about sunflowers having allopathic properties and not to plant them in the same area two years in a row.
If I DO plant annual sunflowers one year, will other plants grow in that area the next year??
sunflowers?: annuals or perennials - or NOT?
Yes, this property is only apparent when there is a very significant build-up of material, e.g. a thick pile of sunflower seed husks under and around a bird feeder. There's nothing to worry about in what you describe.
