We had the tree guy out today. In the next year or two we'll be taking out 4 large Austrian pine trees (I believe that's what he said they were). He gave us some tips for making them more presentable until we decide to get rid of them since they're getting towards the end of their lives. We're thinking of just putting in 2 trees rather than 4 since the yard is only about 100 feet wide.
On my walks with the dog, I saw an evergreen tree I actually liked and the tree guy said, based on my description, that it was a White Pine. He said he rarely gets calls to deal with issues with them, which makes them an easy keeper. He also suggested an Aristocrat Pear, flowers for a brief period, doesn't get too big, looks good and rarely has issues (although it doesn't actually produce fruit, at least not here). I looked up pictures of both and like them.
Anyone have opinions or experience with either tree? They will be on the north side of the house, separating the house from a large park that can get some strong wind if it's from the north.

Out here there are quite a few Pyrus calleryana, usually Bradford.
They seem to be relatively care-free, though there are a few diseases that show up. Rarely do enough damage to need to do anything about it.
If your local tree expert is suggesting it for your area, that is a good recommendation.
Flowers in the late winter/early spring. Really nice show of white pom-pom clusters.
Fruit (if any) is small, dry bead-like things.
We don't grow Pinus strobus (one of the trees called White Pine).
