Morning Glories 2015 # 09

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi everyone, sorry about me not popping in. This heat is Horrid! I have managed to see a bloom here and there of purps, lots of pandurata, I missed that species first bloom on the arch, I see lots of buds, lots of vines, I think I 'll be growing some of them inside at the rate we are going. I am enjoying my cucumbers, I was so excited like you, Helena, to see the first one, now I have a ton, they are also on an arch by the potatoes. I saw a passion vine bloom about to open, huge armenian cucumber blooms and some small round cukes starting to swell, the red silene is blooming, it is like 4 ft tall! the huge sunflower head is drooping now so time to cut it down. All the tall native blue bells are blooming. the monardas, cones, rudbeckias, helen's flower, 4 o clocks, and red day lillys, the Madame Galen trumpet vine, honeysuckles are all blooming and giving such a display. gosh, even the naked lady and the sweet autumn clematis is budding which is way early.
all the different rose of sharon's are popping open, and If I see a duplicate, I am taking it out..

Love that dark purple velvet, it looks like a royal robe. beautiful, Helena.

Jackie, the PPV on the gate fence area is back up volunteer. Isn't that great? no blooms yet, but it will be soon.
I planted a chocolate too, somewhere, won't be able to look at tags until it cools down a bit, I am not outside too much right now.
That carrion flower bloom is totally awesome, mine is just growing since I divided it this Spring.
too hot to send plants now, but in fall, I'd love to send the extra ROS, goji berry, white lilac, monardas, and beauty berry to someone. *HINT HINT*
Jackie, I don't know how u r enduring not having eyesight u r used to. I'd go out of my mind.

LK, how are your blooms coming along?

Pattie, you should come and meet me at work, I have tons and tons of seeds and stuff.I work 13 minutes away from you.

I am already talking about bringing in the tropicals. Too hot to care for them out there, I feel like I am punishing them. ( except for the banana). Even my i carneas are struggling. I have been feeding twice a week, maybe I should feed everyday? my black berries have been picked over by birds, the red raspberry has overgrown it's areas, the vitex is finally blooming, it is late. Everything seems to be mixed up. The news said to not kill the black/brown fuzzy worms eating all the leaves off the cones. There seems to be a bug for each type plant here, weird.
well, I am glad we are all together, and I am off this weekend. Oh u should see the orange milkweed.. and the white milkweed is now loaded with pods. no pods on the other three milkweed colors yet. Here is hoping.

Morning everyone. Debra, your yard sounds like it is beautiful with all your blooms. My gardens are doing pretty good, still no angel trumpet blooms yet.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Love your blooms Debra. Especially fond of your butterfly pic,
All I can do to water my plants. I need to be repotting but in the 100's this week
Got to wait awhile.
Off the same vine as my Aogakiyama x Choc Silk cross last yr. Unfortunately not a cross
bloom. I couldn't get a lighter pic of course Aigakiyana is a dark bloom but not as dark as my new Ebay Plum Velvet

Your plum velvet is a real beauty, Jackie. Isn't it funny how different seeds come out as they are open pollinated?

How long for your eye to heal.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Linda, soon I think. It's looking and feeling better everyday. I notice when I come in from outside,
I'm not blinded like I was before. I drove by myself today but haven't driven at night yet
that will be the real test. I could barely see at night cause of the glare from oncoming headlights and heaven help me if it was raining. The eye Dr told me that's a sure sign of cataracts,
I smoked for over 40 yrs, a shame I didn't realize that smoking put me at high risk of macular degeneration which has no cure..No one told me and apparently no one in my family knew either.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have a friend in San Antonio that has that, and she has to have shots in her eye one a month. She was told to quit smoking, but she still smokes heavily.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Linda, I still have a lot to learn about this eye disease. I don't know yet if they give shots for the dry macular degeneration or the more serious wet type. When I go back to see my Dr in a couple more weeks,I;ll have a ton of questions for him. All he volunteered was to tell me I
was doing good and that when I get my other eye fixed,my Astigmatism would
likely disappear.
A shame your friend won't quit smoking.

Gautier, MS

Your garden plants look great Debra. I love the butterfly too! I've been seeing those in my plants too.

Glad your eye sight is getting better Jackie. Love all your pretty blooms. Looks like we are all getting the terrible heat wave.

Here's a few blooms from yesterday and today
Q1044 not, blue blzd
Lite Blue DFNM
Blushing Bride
Dany's Peach
Pink Halo on white (no label on it)

****** Debra, can ou tell me the name of the bug that has my leaves broken and dangling.
Ive got a big problem with those now. I found my systemic and applied it to top of soil on all my glories.I know you told us the name a week or 2 ago.

Jackie, those are very pretty blooms.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Linda K.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Linda and Jackie.

I edited my post above with the names of the blooms Jackie.

Love your blooms Jackie. Tempest did the same when I grew it too Jackie. That's what I liked about it. Glad you like Ukigumo, it has that nice blue color. Your Dark Plum Velvet from Ebay is just awesome! Love seeing all your blooms.

We had a real good shower yesterday early evening, cooled us off a bit. All my plants needed the water. I only had a few blooms this morning.
Purple tie dye
Dany's Peach
Pink Porcelain (hope I have the right names)

Love your blooms this morning Helena. How nice to see a pretty Tie Dye.
Dany;s Peach is a beauty and your Pink Porcelain crossis too,

I put the systemic on top of my mg potsand now I have a bunch of yellow lvs.
I hope it wasn;t the systemic. I tried not to over do it.

Helenas Incredible Blue Blizzard, huge bloom over 5 inches acros

all your blooms are beautiful! That Ukigumo and Tempest are real something, and I always love the blue blizzard, Jackie. I have not found the bug that is cutting the tops of at about 6 inches. I am thinking some kind of weevil. what ever they are, they sure make the plant grow more branches.
I have given up on the bugs for now, too hot outside. I feel bad cuz I changed the fish pond water and now all 5 of my 4 yr old gold fish are dead. Sad. The moon snails and little algea eater fish are fine. I was in a hurry, I think I didn't let the chemicals and water set long enough.
*sigh*
Helena, you sure are having a great year for morning glorys.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Debra.
Sorry about your fish.
It will be a miracle if all my vines aren't dead in the am.
Guess its too hot for the systemic or I used too much.
Maybe I can scoop some of it out of the pot.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

I could lose all of my mg's lining the carport, all thanks to the Bayer rose systemic.
I think thats the culprit. My glories up on the porch don;t look bad. I really don;t know what to make of it, I applied the systemic to the vines on the front porch too.
This is a seedling from my Aogakiyana x Mauve splash cross that 1st showed up last year.,
Notice the color of the bars, they look like the color of mauve splash.so I;m hopeful i will get
Aogakiyama x Mauve Splash
Mauve Splash
PPV
Tempest
Berlin blue

Sorry about your fish too Debra.

Jackie, I hope your mgs recover Jackie from the spraying. Your blooms are all so gorgeous Jackie. I love them all, beautiful.

I've given up on the bugs, the leaves on my mgs have been awful this year.

Helena, I love Mauve Splash too for its changing looks. Pres Bush does the same thing as does Tempest, Pink Tie dye and Blue Lav Beauty to name just a few.
Your Mauve Splash is a beauty.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie. Here's a better picture of the same bloom, I hope. It's been nice to see the changes of the blooms. I think you had some awesome blooms too1

We had a little more rain here, cool us off a bit.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh golly, I agree with Linda, you both are rockin the blooms right now. I love that mutant blue, tempest and berlin blue, mauve splash and well, shoot I love all of them.
Gee, it's raining! go figger.. after I hauled up all the jugs of fish tank water to put on the plants LOL
I also threw out rabbit poo over the gardens again and watered, so I might be able to go a day without watering. Work was another manic Monday. The day after I told you all about the fish, I went to water with my green watering can, and out plopped a little pointed water frog. well, he went to the basement for a night, and when I got home Joanna and I took him to a pond and let him go. Where do these critters come from? I felt like God was saying" it's okay about those feeder bait goldfish, you gave them 4 years a good life, so here is a little pond frog you never get to see in your yard ".. LOL
Oh u guys, look at the leaves of the species, and I must be missing the blooms, cuz I have seed pods. the arches are loaded..there are vines everywhere, only a few purps and pandy blooming.
this time last year I had gorgeous i nil blooms.. *sigh*

That MS is really special Helena.
We had lightning all around but no rain yet. We really need it to help
cool us down and keep the grass growing in the horse pasture,
Love your pics Debra. Nice to see your pandy blooming. How healthy it looks,.
I have tons of the little water frogs, they're everywhere.
Your nil blooms will show up soon I'm sure. Just late cause of the long winter we had??

Thanks Linda and Jackie.

Jackie, Beautiful blooms. I really like that Plum Surprise. Of coarse the are blooms are pretty nice too. Happy to see them!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks, friends. I love that Pandy, but boy it sure did get beat to heck last night and today. 3 inches of rain on them in a short time pounded everything here. But, that is okay, a broken stem brings two more stems. ( On most things anyway) I have a sunflower I cut of at the second leaf join down and it gave me 4 branches with a sunflower at each end. Cute! West Wichita got 6 inches, and it was flooded at the mall.
Jackie, I really hope you let us know what the Dr says. We are all thinking positvie thoughts for you.
What a celebration of blooms you both have shared. Dany's Peach is quite unusual, and that makes it special. I have some Dany's seeds vining in one pot. Jackies in another. Helenas in another. Can't wait!

Love that Blue Lavender Beauty. The plum surprise is still a favorite of mine, and PPV is beautiful. So glad to see that water color country blue. I love that one.
I'm finding large fat seed pods on vines that I did not see bloom. I will call these the mystery mix. LOL
July 22 2014 arch over bean patch, north patio pandy wall, north west patio corner, southwest patio corner , don't see any blooms to speak of a year ago either on this day.
Will take same shots today before work I hope.

Nice gardens Debra. In picture #4, what is the plant being supported by the pole?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Linda. That is purple milkweed last year. the poles are for the glorys there that are vining, as well as to support the milkweed. Same milkweed this month.. no poles for glorys now, no room in that barrell!
