I'm writing a book that takes place in Reno and want to use a plant as a plot point. However, I know nothing. I'm looking for a plant that might grow in the outskirts of the area, maybe in a secluded spot near the mountains, that wouldn't be seen in downtown Reno.
Thanks in advance.
Plants in Different Areas of Reno
I hope this isn't about the casino district - a VERY small part of Reno.
Okay, not completely native to us but not well known:
Desert Peach (Prunus andersonii) - my personal favorite. Its a clonal plant meaning every Desert Peach in a half acre area is all one plant. Like Aspens.
Flame Checker (Sphaeralcea munroana) - a plant from my misspent youth. It grows on the tailings of old mine shafts.
Cobweb Thistle (Cirsium occidentale) - not an unusual plant unless you have never seen one before. Ghostly white with bright red flowers. Who wouldn't love that?
Hope this helps
Daisy
