One of my mature azaleas has begun showing defoliation in a spot. Anyone know what might be causing it?
Azalea defoliation
Are the existing leaves showing any signs like wilting or brown?
Cut into a branch that looks like it might still be alive but perhaps with fewer leaves. A neat, clean cross section.
Look at the wood. Some plant diseases will invade the conducting tissues. Healthy wood looks white or barely off white. Diseased tissue will often be tan, and it might be just part of the wood that is affected. Look into something like Phytophthora or Verticillium. (I do not know if Azaleas can get either)
thanks, Diana! that's helpful!
