Hello all,
The peach tree shown is in it's second year of growing. On June 13th it was 76" tall. This was planted as a seed from a peach that was grown a few miles from me.
What is the advice to try to keep it going so it bears fruit? My neighbour (behind me) has a peach tree and it's loaded with peaches. You can see the tree behind the yellow shed. He does nothing to or for it as far as I know.
Thanks
SB
What is best to do for a second year peach tree?
Begin the process of shaping the main scaffold limbs.
If you want a taller tree you can walk under, then I would be removing the lower limbs, perhaps 2-3 each year until it gets to the height you want.
If you want a low branched vase shape, overall height stays lower (easier for picking) the remove the inner main stem that wants to grow straight up.
Look at some pictures at possible pruning techniques.
Here is an example of some information about how peaches grow and how to prune them.
