Small pests can do this. So young, such small jaws all they can do is nibble one side of the leaf.
Several diseases can look like this, too.
Damage from hail can do this. Almost always limited to the very top leaves in a quick storm that blows over fast- they take the hit, protecting the leaves below.
What does the back of the leaf look like?
Go out in the earliest AM or dusk and look for pests.
Also, try trapping them in loosely rolled newspaper. Many pests feed on the plant at night, and hide in the soil during the day. Hold the rolled paper over a 5 gallon bucket to shake, unroll and see what you have caught.
