what the heck is this black goo on my plant?

Rohnert Park, CA

I'm not actually sure what this plant is, because my friend gave me a bunch of seeds and I just germinated them all. I'm guessing either cucumber or squash or melon or something. anyway, what the heck is this black goo? it looks maybe some sort of tiny little fungi? But I have never seen it anywhere, and especially that black goo stuff..

it's also only on this one plant, no others.

Since both the fungus (white stuff) and green plants are affected, I think it is not a disease or anything like that.
Looks like mud or snail bait (Deadline) got spattered onto the plants. Maybe bird poop??

Leaves that get too cold can turn sort of black-green like that one leaf, but this really does not look like chill.

Strongly resembles bird poop.

i can definitely see what he is talking about with the fungi in the third photo...looks like teeny tiny mushrooms with black colored caps. which tells me that it has been wet for an extended period of time perhaps. i also wonder if it has to do with any soil splash up that has happened, as it looks like there is some on a few of the leaf stalks.

Decomposing wood matter fungi

The black goo still looks like bird poop to me.

It feels slimier than poo. Yes to moisture, but still just decomp wood.

OK, do a google search using the term
Black gooey fungi

There is a fungus that looks exactly like picture 3.

I was just going by pic 1 and it looks like my pea fowl have been there and I was agreeing with you, Diana.

Yes, it still looks like bird poop, but I think it is one of the fungi in the Cornell link.

wow thanks for the replies! I think it looks like the stuff from the cornell link. i definitely don't think it's bird poop. much too shiny or something.

Good as long as you got your answer that all that counts.
