I got this prayer plant from someone who was just going to trash it, but it doesn't seem to have grown or recovered at all for over a month. It gets moderate sunlight and I've put it on a pebble tray to try and increase the humidity. The roots don't seem rotten/dead but the leaves are brown at the tips and some have cracks/holes.
Will this prayer plant recover?
It's a near certainty that the plant has been over-watered or there is a high level of dissolved solids (salts) in the soil solution. Since the timing is right, your best move would be to repot into an appropriate soil sometime in mid-June. An appropriate soil is one you can water to beyond saturation (so you're flushing the soil each time you water) w/o having to worry the soil will stay soggy so long it impairs root function/health. A good soil also solves that 'accumulating salts' issue that goes hand in hand with poor soils and watering in small sips to avoid root issues.
By now, you should have got the message that your soil choice is the foundation the plant has to build on. Building on a poor foundation usually leads to problems, which is why getting the soil right goes a long way toward getting you your green thumb.
