Hi,
I am in Oregon and have grown some Five Spot flowers from seed. Does anyone know when these begin to flower? I have some where the vegetation is pretty full, but still not seeing any sign of flowers. Everything I read says it is a spring flower. I have them in baskets. Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks
Karen
Five Spot Nemophila maculata question
Was your winter a bit longer than usual? Perhaps they are just a bit late.
I agree with Diana, but would add maybe the seeds are not getting either enough light OR the thick vegetation is overcrowding them.
If they are in baskets, is there any chance you could move them more into the open when good light, more warmth gets to the baskets, have you been monitoring the watering, maybe they are too dry for germination IF over crowded.
My garden is all to pot this spring too as we had a severely wet, cold and many storms to put up with and most of my beautiful shrubs have naked stems, the salty wind has burned the foliage from them, even my spring bulbs had the sense to stay underground longer than normal BUT things are on their way now, just still a bit too wet in some areas.
I'm sure your plants will make an appearance once they feel a bit of heat and some gently moisture.
Wish you good luck and kind Regards.

Weenel, they have germinated they just haven't bloomed. Lol
If your fertilizing you may want to use a fertilizer with a high middle #. Phosphorous promotes flowering if your using a fertilizer with a high first # (nitrogen) you will get beautiful foliage but not many flowers. The book I have says they bloom from March to May and they like full sun. I wouldn't give up on them blooming.
I agree that the weather may be a big factor. we never really had a winter here in oregon. i think maybe I will try moving them to a full sun area although it has been overcast here mostly. They have been in the back yard where they are getting morning sun. I have them planted in organic soil and added some osmocote to the baskets about 3 weeks ago. i will keep my fingers crossed for blooms from them.
thanks all
Feel free to let us know how they do. Thanks
Nothing sounds unusual here. They just need some time. When grown form self-sown seed here, they bloom in summer.
