Bark Mulch on Vegatable Garden

Royersford, PA

Hi, so I was planting my first vegetable garden and walked away for two seconds after finishing the planting the seeds and transplants. In that time hubby had dumped like 2 inches of black bark mulch on top, covering everything. I didn't even get a chance to water. I did some Googling only to find out you shouldn't even use bark mulch on a veggie garden. I uncovered as best I could but will not have a chance to remove until tomorrow. And I am afraid to water it now cause all the stuff in the mulch plus the drier the mulch the easier it will be to get off. Is my garden now ruined? There is common herbs, carrots and beans in there. What do I do?!?!

Rake off what you can and ignore the rest.

Thanks, I decided to go out tonight and clean it out. Got as much as possible but the soil is now black and all my markers are moved. Tried to not move the topsoil and disrupt seeds, not sure how successful that was. Hopefully too much damage wasn't done.

That is the problem- seed probably got moved. Oh, well, I guess the salad got tossed before being harvested!
If you cannot tell good from bad seedlings, post pics as they sprout and lets see how many we can ID.
