Only one variety of my raspberries looks like this.... is it root rot?
Is this root rot on raspberries?
I do not think so.
I see the brown, crispy, curled part of the leaf to the upper right and my first thought is salt burn. I see the overall red tint and think of several things. (see lower down in the post.)
Salt burn:
'salt' is not just sodium chloride, but can be any of many things in the water that act like salt from the plant (and chemist) point of view.
Excess fertilizer and salts (chemical term) in the water are the most common sources of salts from the plant point of view.
Some varieties are more sensitive than others to different amounts of fertilizer and other things in the soil. Sometimes it is just the location. One area of the growing grounds might get more fertilizer, or less water than another.
Are these getting enough water? Rain will wash out the accumulated salts in the soil, then you need to be careful not to apply more.
Have you been applying fertilizer? Use the slow release or organic products, not the fast release fertilizers.
Reddish leaves:
May be normal for some plants. (I do not think it is normal for raspberry though)
Usually a sign of stress- too little water, lack of fertilizer, too-hot location (against a wall, or in a dark container).
This is late but thank you for the info. I pruned everything back and they are doing better now. I plan on thinning quite a bit in the winter and hope for better success.
