flowers ground squirrels won't eat in zone 9

Planted 2 Gardens in the last 2 weeks and all plants have been eaten.
Please help me find plants they will not eat.
We have 15 ground squirrels but will not use poison to control them. It is very hot and dry here in Wildomar CA.
