I just bought a dwarf Liberty apple tree and tried my best to follow directions on how to plant it. This is my first time planting a grafted tree, or any tree for that matter. It came in the mail as a bare root plant with no leaves. I tried my best to plant it so that the grafted part was above the soil line. However, I really would rather this tree not sprout roots from the top part because there just isn't room for a full sized apple tree where I want to plant this. I've attached some pictures of the base of the plant. I just planted this 2 days ago. Do you think it's ok, or should I dig it up and make sure the grafted part is even higher. Thanks for your help :)
Planting Grafted Dwarf Apple Tree Help
Your planting depth is just fine, but I am very concerned about the bad looking spot (large area) on the bark in the first picture. If the plant came that way, I would want my money back. If this just happened, then something damaged it while you were planting or right after. For example, is this on the south west side? The hottest sun? Could be sunburn.
I'm not sure what side it's on. I'll go out and check later today. I know there's a rabbit in my backyard. It's possible it did it. Thanks for your help :)
