Help, my avocado plant is sick. i went away for awhile, and accidentally left it out side on a table where it collected water at the base of its pot. also i think it has a pest problem.
please help me, my avocado plant looks very sick.
It appears it may have developed phytophthora root rot from the long exposure to overly wet soil. It is fairly common in avocados and slowly spreads throughout the stem (the brown spots in the stem) and throughout the circulatory system of the plant. It is a fungal disease and can be treated with most fungicides but results are marginal at best. You can try transplanting it into a new container, somewhat larger, filled with fresh dry mix and treat it regularly with fungicide of your choice. Fungicides are not a cure, they merely slow the disease so long term survival is doubtful.

I also see signs of Mealy Bugs in picture #1. See the white fluff in the crotch
and the smaller white specks around it. MB can hide in very small crevices.
You can dab that whole area with rubbing alcohol to kill them.
They hide very well, though. Repeat this treatment a couple of times.
Use a systemic product in the soil.
I cannot comment on the root rot Dave posted about. Gita
Thank you for you responses, I really don't want my avocado plant to die. It's my first growing attempt and i want to do all i can to try and save it. All the advice is greatly appreciated. Also i'd like to treat it organically/naturally if possible. thank you so much..
