Annabelle Hydrangrea or Summer Snowflake Viburnum?

Batavia, IL

I'm going with a green and white landscaping theme in front of my red brick home. I'm looking for something that will be against the house behind some boxwoods. It's hard to say how much light this spot will get once the maple in the front gets all of its leaves in but my guess is it will be shady with some sun mid day (maybe 4 hours). I like that both varieties bloom all season but I like that the viburnum maybe a stronger plant? I'm worried the hydrangea may kind of be all over the place. Ideas? Recommendations?

That's a hard choice as I like both these shrubs, BUT they are not for my garden but for yours.
If your going to be making a green / white theme, them plant both, the Hydrangea and the Viburnum,
There are many, many white flowering type plants, / shrubs etc, all different textures if foliage, shape and full grown size, all these are important when planning a bed / border as what start out maybe a foot high can end up over-shadowing a few of it's neighbouring plants. there are several smallish Rhododendrons to look at, some with lacy flower heads, others with red under the leaf and others again have yellow hair/fluffy under leaf, all these things make interesting statements within a border.

Try introduce some pastel colours too as you will require something to single out the different whites, might become a bit boring to the eye,
Also white Roses (Climbers and shrub Roses can look so graceful when placed beside other plants,
Clematis also come in white/cream. gives the eye a bit of height.
Look at Mock Orange as these give out a beautiful perfume especially in early evening. as does Lilac that is double flowering and white.
Remember some white plants have flowers that are cream when first opening and as the flowers mature, they become white. others might NOT be as white sheets on a bed BUT I still think they are good beside greenery looking good as any other white flowering plant.

Make a plan and search for the named plants you want and where to plant them in the border / bed behind the BOX, It's so easy to buy loads of plants and get lost as to what you were originally trying to achieve , IF you have a drawn plan, then you can refer to it every time your looking for plants and also the plan will remind you what plants you already have purchased.
Many types of plants have different colours of flowers as in Roses, etc, lots will have white flowering types so there are hundreds of white flowering plants to select from.

Good luck and Kind Regards.
