What works to get rid of them ? Hard to find the holes underground because it's so sandy , when I dig down , the sand caves in , hiding the hole .My new fruit trees have suffered from having the roots eaten ,and my shrubs . I have poured ammonia into the burrows around the fruit trees and it helps for just a coupla months .
gophers
Make a basket out of aviary mesh. Sort of like chicken wire, but smaller spaces. Make the hole quite wide and line it with this basket and plant in it.
I had a Doberman once, thought she was a terrier, and would plow through the gopher tunnels.
I'll try that with all the new plants . I have a sweet olive left in a bucket that I sure would like to get in the ground . The gophers ate the roots of my other one right off to the main stem .
I have two terriers , a Westie and a Jack R . Hard to have a nice lawn with them and the gophers . Not hard , impossible . Thanks Diana .
Terriers are naturals at going to earth. Perhaps make you garden a training ground for your earth dogs?
Yeah , training them to plow it up would be nice .
