I just got this leaf from a friend I am trying to root in water and root starter solution.. not sure what type plant this is can I get some advice

What a gorgeous leaf! It's probably Monstera. If there's not a bit of stem attached to the petiole, I don't think it can take root.

I agree with Purple. Two forms that might match are 'Thai Constellation, and 'Cheesecake'.
