Rain!!

Fort Worth, TX

OK, well it is sprinkling here now, so hopefully that is the end for a bit.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We woke up to rain and had a little gentle rain this afternoon. We're at a total of 16" in my rain gauge since I started this thread. NO rain in the 7-day forecast for Fort Worth!! Yippee!

Fort Worth, TX

My sweet potato slips are due in next week. They like hot weather, so I am glad it will be warming up, for them anyway. (no ac in my truck, not going to be happy about the heat for me.)

Dallas, TX

I live near Love Field and a few nights ago we got lots of rain. According to the news, 5 inches in a few hours. That's a lot of water. I really need to dig in the dirt but now I have to wait a little longer for the ground to dry out. Such a balancing act.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

This is the first year that I've had to garden in the mud.

Fort Worth, TX

Glad I got mine in and glad I worked in the rain and moved that extra garden soil/compost mix in. Plants actually look pretty good, wouldn't have if I hadn't raised the garden.

Dallas, TX

I've never had a rain barrel b/c I didn't think there would ever be enough rain. Guess I was wrong.

Fort Worth, TX

saving my rain barrels for a sunny day, they are full and screened on top to keep skeeters out

Fort Worth, TX

Looks like 3.25 inches here, maybe .25 of that fell yesterday. Anyone else got a measurement?

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

We got 7.25" during the night and another two inches this morning. We have huge carp in our field again. This time it is a school of 6-7. The Brazos is higher than it was over Memorial Day weekend.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow, Joy! That's some crazy rain totals!

We got almost 3.75" of rain.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

It just stopped raining here.

Dallas, TX

Well it's been raining here since about 7 or so this evening. I was spreading mulch and not ready for the rain. We're getting major thunder and lightening too. At least I snapped to in time to get some pots into the trunk of my car before the rain actually started. Have to be ready with a good selection for my pot shop that I'll have at our RU on Sunday.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

No rain in my part of Fort Worth, except a passing shower. I really needed it for my garden, too.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

We had storms here too. It rained for a good 2-3 hrs...don't know if we will get anymore today. 70% humidity!

Dallas, TX

70% humidity? Oh, joy. But it is kinda good for the skin. When I lived in CO the dry air did a number on my (at the time) lovely young skin.

Surprised FT W didn't get much. Y'all and points west of Dallas are usually harder hit than us. No rain gauge so don't know how much we got. Never ever thought we'd get enough rain to find a rain gauge useful. Or a rain barrel. Guess I was just a little bit wrong about that rain barrel.

Fort Worth, TX

I got 15 drops and will have to water the garden.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

A storm came thru today, even tho there was 0% chance of rain. I was in Austin/Round Rock area for most of it. Signal weren't working, streets flooded it was a dozzy.

Dallas, TX

Gypsi - hey - 15 drops is better than none. And easy to count. :D

1lisac - It's always seems to be the case that 0% chance just means 'we have no idea'.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I think they do that to cover their backsides.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I don't know, this was one amazing storm...

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I hear thunder, the sky has gotten dark and the temps have dropped by 20 degrees. Guess what's coming next? Lol

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

We're getting rain. It's "just" a pop up shower, but it's already dropped 1/8" of rain in about 15 mins.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Rain is over. Picked up a little over 1.5". Yay!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Yup. Dunno how much here in Houston tho

After my last post to this thread I checked the online weather report. It said that rain was likely (don't remember %) to occur about 4:15 AM. And it did! Almost on the dot. I don't know how much, probably just a little.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Many of these weather reports can time it to the minute, my cellphone tells me how soon. Irritating having it tracking me so close. Guess most folks like having the sprinklers on a timer.

Fort Worth, TX

i got 1/8th of an inch, better than none

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Another gullywasher, but I am home finally. Humid, hot, skeeters and baby frogs everywhere. Middle of the night and 76°… water runnin in the yard, the driveway, but the drains are taking it on down the way, and leaving hi water marks behind and soggy walking if you step into the quiksand yard..

Wow, Kitt! That's a lot of water!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Its been everyday in Houston, we are made of sand tho. The local traffic has been getting the idea to drive slower finally, but still gets in a bind when trying to drive through the areas the drains backup. I got 1 whole day yesterday without rain.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, we picked up another 1/4" of rain today. We really needed it, too!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

The local news said that we are in for a wet fall due to El Niño. I guess we will see.

Fort Worth, TX

I think I got an inch but lost the dvr to a lightning strike last night. Will check my rain "guages" aka buckets strategically placed, in a few minutes

How did everyone else do?

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

It just started raining here. From the looks of the radar it may not be much. Super humid.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I got thunder, lightning, and wind. The streets were wet, but nothing measurable. Nice cool down, though.

Fort Worth, TX

I got about 1.25 inches, lost the dvr, one aquarium light and a coffeepot to an apparent lightning strike TV was ok, the cord coming from the dish may just have been damaged in the strike. that 8 ft copper rod I buried when I changed the plumbing seemed to do a pretty fair job.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Gypsi, why on Earth would you bury an 8' copper rod? Not judging, just very curious!! Wish we'd get a little more rain here.. things are drying up faster then I can keep up with.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Just got a glorious downpour here & now have a light sprinkle going on with thunder in the background. I was all set to plant some turnip, beet, & other seeds yesterday but got distracted by all the cleaning up needed in other beds! Well, at least my shade garden looks nice & is now well watered😊

Dallas, TX

no rain in dallas. i'm jealous!
