I am growing big beef and pink Cadillac tomatoes. Does anyone else have any experience with growing either variety? If so how many tomatoes can I expect from each plant? I know this is a specific question and one that is hard to answer due to do many variables. I'm just looking for a ballpark of what a good production would be for these particular varieties. I'm in central Texas zone 8, growing in raised beds planted 2' apart with a fantastic soil mix. I actually already have them in the ground most are 2-3' tall and that's after planting deep. I already have 6 tomatoes showing about the size of a quarter. This is my first garden so I'm bound to make mistakes but just want to know what to expect.
tomato production
VERY roughly: Larger fruit = fewer fruits (but still plenty for average home use)
The beef... anything and Pink Cadillac are generally among the largest fruits, and I cannot ripen them in my mild summer, so do not grow them.
Indeterminite types (Pink Cadillac and Big Beef are this type) will keep on producing if you keep harvesting. Make sure there is plenty of room, and support them off the ground with large, sturdy cages or trellis. This will keep most soil type crawling critters from eating the fruit.
