Hey everybody. :)

All's well here. Busy, feets is tired, but conscience is clear and I'm not being choked to death by stress. Hmm. Every now and then good to make that last reminder particularly when I think about going back to my law practice. Hahaa.

You're not surprised, but the only thing I have started from seed is tropical milkweEd. I am "still" weeding, though not as vigorously as I ought. Any body know how.to kill raspberries without using glyphosate? :/

Ok. Today i am going to open the mug swap. Still without internet at the house so makes this stuff very tedious on the phone.

Hugs! :)

Thanks for the heads up Kathy! I've been so bad about coming on DG lately and looks like I checked the thread just in time - hope to see the robin on my doorstep tomorrow!

Exciting couple of weeks for me, got some awesome 'first blooms' -

First blooms on my Rainbow Ground Orchid, then on a Wineberry Candy day lily I started from seed 18 months ago, and lastly, first bloom on some Gloriosa lily tubers I got in a trade over winter.

None so stunning here in the Northeast yet, but tiarella (my first year) is blooming in full force fro such a little plant...lilacs just started and my petal peony..to name a few.

Looking forward to all the blooms this year, after a year of "labor of love" creating garden beds out of what was previously lawn in my back yard :0)

2. Oriental Poppies
3. Creeping Phlox
4. Jacobs Ladder (first year)

Beautiful blooms FSG! What a pretty DL and you should be very proud that it grew from seed.

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

And yours a beautiful too, valal. we cross posted. Isn't it exciting when first blooms appear? I am always thrilled to see them.

Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Pretty blooms! Love to see them. I'm mad the stupid deer chewed up my stargazer Lily, clipped the joe pye, and got in the pipevine. :(

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

I'm green with envy. I still have more weeds than blooms, but the Sundrops/Oenothera started blooming todAy. Sunny and happy, made my day.

Hope all's well.

I LOVE spring, and even tho the blooms are not profuse yet, I love to peruse the garden and see what's grown more, what's new sprouting..and yes, what's blooming/ready to bloom soon.
It's the little things in life that mean so much! Those flowers feed our souls :o)

Word(s) for the day (saw it on a truck as travelled the other day) and had to share:
"Expand your vocabulary - Say it with Flowers"

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

My thoughts exactly val! There is a huge conversation goin on in my yard. lol

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9a)

Beautiful blooms vilal - the color on that peony is stunning!

So...got the robin today!!! I opened it immediately and just finished going through it all, lol. What a great selection, I found some real treasures I can't wait to try! Will be contacting the next person on the list and hopefully sending out tomorrow. :). Will let you all know when it's in flight again....

Sorry about the double post :)

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9a)

Lol,okay, I'll stop trying to figure it out. :D

Annette, Forgot to tell you I got one Passiflora seed to grow. Am keeping the others moist as it said 30-90 days for germination. Do you all have to wait that long? It's about 7-8" high, so hopeful. Thanks for the seeds!

FLSunshine, Glad you enjoyed the robin. There's ALOT of "GOOD STUFF" in that box!
chuckled at your double posts :) Hang in there!

Hi everybody!

Got my first Iris bloom today, one I got in trade/planted last fall

Valal,Don't give up! it does seem to take forever, But once they get going you can't stop them. i have them coming up way out in the yard, away from the original site. So take care where you plant them.

Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Valal I planted 2 passiflora and they keep shooting up new starts. I can easily send you a start if you like. Clearly the plant is a bit of a thug but I had lots of gulf frits in summer and it dies back in winter so I'm ok with that. Let me know if you want some insurance against the seeds.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Haha, I was also going to offer starts as they are just now popping up out of the ground all over the yard. :)

Otway, OH(Zone 6b)

I'll take a start, would like to put it on the back side of my cement block wall Kathy

Natick, MA

Memays/Amanda,

You are both very generous to offer. THANK YOU! I hate to turn down your offer, but right now I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the Wintersown seedlings I have to plant and wondering if I'll have room! I know it's a "wonderful problem" to have. Definitely a labor of love. I DID get a little carried away.

I also started a variety of annual vines (cardinal, moon vines, hyacinth beans) and have grown several clematis from bare roots) I'm figuring out where I'm going to put all these lovelies! So need to get these all situated before I can think of anything else :o) I appreciate your offer more than I can say, tho!

Kiowa, CO(Zone 5b)

Val, your Iris is beautiful.....lucky you! Last weekend (Mother's day I had freezing temps and snow (8") and into the 20's with snow so I lost hundreds of blooms. Two more nights were in the low 30's and day temps only into the 40's.........Will the weather ever warm up? News just said this is the 5th coldest May on record. It's been raining for almost a month solid (except 2 or 3 days). And 10 day forecast has rain for everyday........... What does the sun look like?

Natick, MA

Kathy,
I can't believe you're still getting snow and such low temps! I had no idea, i thought you were rather on par with our weather, that spring had finally hit your area. Kind of discouraging, but hang in there! Our winter was FOREVER, but we are receiving the pay off of a wonderful spring and I'm reveling in every day! I took vacation this week around Memorial Day, so have Tues to Tues off. I'm hoping to get alot of my bare root plants (making good progress there, but some stragglers still to do, and clematis to plan where to put where they will grow well) and then all my WS seeds. I think I went overboard this year!

But I am hoping when done, I will reap the benefit of alot of nice perennials and before too long, lots of lovely blooms!

Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Kathy email your address and I'll get you one

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9a)

The robin is in flight again! Since you are so close FloGro, it should get to you tomorrow. :). Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful seed contributions and especially to Amanda for organizing it!

(Tracy) Lk Pan, FL(Zone 9a)

The robin landed in Lake Pan yesterday! I will go through the booty and have her back in the air Tuesday.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Good stuff!

The only thing I started from seed was the tropical milkweed till yesterday. I emptied some pots along the driveway/retaining wall and put in some Scarlet O'Hara morning glory seeds and a couple of varieties of nasturtium.

Didn't mention that nasturtiums are my iguana's favirite flower. :)

Ooops! And Spanish flag seedz, Ipomoea lobata. Love it.

Thanks for the reminder Amanda - I need to start my nasturtiums and Spanish Flag. So many seeds - so little time!

Natick, MA

Carolyn,
YOU SAID IT!! :o)

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

So many seeds, so little time.(sigh)

Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Oooo so excited to be next - doing a happy dance

Natick, MA

Čos Memay NEEDS more seeds :-) Especially after all that winter sowing, right!????
Gotta get ready for next winter :-) LOLAre you going to WS as much this winter?
Enjoy!!!!!!

Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL Valal - I am coming to realize the seed starting and the plotting and planning is just as much fun as the resulting plants! I had an actual huge issue where my yard guy's helper whacked a couple of my most promising WS starts - so my current thinking is selective winter sowing.....

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

you all are a hoot! lol

Natick, MA

Memays, I totally agree...I think next year my motto is "less is more"; I overdid this year and kind of stressing myself out. This should be FUN...but I WANT IT ALL!! LOL - and NOW!
SOOOOOO BAD!

Nanny, glad we can provide a sense of entertainment for you :o))))) I try!

I think I found a perfect (?) place for my passion fruit vine...in the front/center of my back-of-the-house garden. While there are hostas behind, the front row actually gets a good deal of sun (vs. the shaded back due to the house/roof overhang. We'll see how it does! :)

I got a TON done yesterday am. Worked in the garden for 3 hours. Still tons of WS seedlings, but I got somethings in the ground that were (a few inside seedlings grown) in need of permanent planting, as they were drying out too quickly in the cells. Also planted my Moon Flower Vine ... have you all grown one? this is my first year, grew a couple seedlings inside. Will be interesting to watch it grow and hopefully bloom well!

Have a great week everyone (I'll be back tho!)

Mount Sterling, KY(Zone 6b)

Good luck with all the new plants valal! Sounds like you are "cooking with gas" as the old saying goes. lol I had to work most of the day yesterday but did manage to get a few projects done. Moved a bunch of tomato plants outside under the shade cloth to transition . built a little hoop house (my own design) first to put the under for a few days.
It turned out pretty well, but I need to tweak my cover/shade cloth a bit. I have an aluminet remnant that I bought really cheap and it is about 20" wide and 24 ft long and I am thinking of cutting it in half and seaming it to make a 40" by 12 ft cover. I use the aluminet shade cloth in the greenhouse, It really makes a difference. Anyway that is what i have been up to. Have a great day everyone!

Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Robin is in Atlanta ready to return to Amanda soon! What fun thanks all!
