Help with my Pilea Peperomiodides

Jackson Heights, NY

Please help! I believe that I have overwatered my pilea peperomioides! I believe my daughter was "helping" and we ended up watering it twice in one day. I went to bed and the leaves were all drooping down and then this morning the entire plant was leaning over because the main steam was too weak to support it. The main stem is kind of soft all the way down through the roots. In an effort to save it I removed it from the old wet pot and moved it to a dry pot with new soil, the leaves are still drooping but they seemed to have firmed up a bit. Any advice? Since the main stem is so soft/weak should I cut it roots and all and try to re-root? Is that even an option or will that completely kill the plant. I also heard that these plants are easy to propagate so I am trying to root some of the younger leaves. Any help would be much appreciated!

I'm afraid the plant is a goner. It needs to be kept drier over the winter. You can root stem tip cuttings if they are not rotted. I don't know about rooting single leaves.

If the new leaves do not show any sign of a problem you could try rooting some cuttings. Often, however, once the rot sets in it has infected all the plant.
