Hi - My fil gave me a bromeliade about 6 months ago. The mom died but she left pups. I removed the pups after they were about 1/2 the mom size and I potted them elsewhere (indoors). I do not remember if the mom had roots, but I just moved my pups into another pot (that better fits them) and I dont see any roots from the pups. Are they suppose have roots like my Schefflera?
Bromeliad is not rooting
Can you post a picture of the bromeliad?
Yes, they should have roots, but they are very slow to form. Still, after 6 months I would sure expect there to be some roots.
Yes, they should have roots. Bromeliad pups can be safely removed from the mother plant when they are 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the mother. In my experience the pups aren't the easiest thing to root.
A friend was having a similar problem. She put the pup in water, covering just the bottom 1" or so. New roots are actively forming, after a very dull nothing. In this case, there may have also been an issue of not enough light, so not sure if it was the "more moisture" or the "more light" that made the difference, but a nice healthy looking little one is now growing.
