I bought a reliance peach about two weeks ago we have had about a couple of days of warm weather still it has not leaf out either has the ones had the store what month is this variety supposed to leaf out my majestic peach all ready had leaves at the store and is still growing.
When should my new peach tree leaf out.
I am in zone 9b and my peaches are in flower. The youngest has been in the ground about 3 years. If I look closely I can see the leaf buds swelling, any day now they will break.
A new plant might not flower the first year.
What zone are you? I think you are in a colder zone, so leafing out will be a bit later.
Add your USDA climate zone to your ID.
Zone 7 why would the other variety of peach I got be already leafed out.
Several reasons come to mind. Different varieties may leaf out at different times. Also, it depends on where those trees were grown. They may have come from different growers in different parts of the country. A tree grown in the deep south may leaf out before one grown in a colder climate. It all depends on where those trees were located before they were delivered to the store or nursery.
If you are concerned if this tree is alive scratch the bark lightly with your fingernail and see if the cambium layer, just under the outside layer of bark, is green. As long as you see some healthy green your tree should be fine.
Its been in the ground 13 days plant march 9th it is still green inside.
I'm sure it will leaf out just give it some time. If it is still green it is alive and will leaf out when it is ready. Nursery stock could have come from a cooler climate or maybe even kept in cold storage over the winter months which can delay breaking dormancy. I'm in 6b and my peaches do not bloom until mid April up here at the earliest and average around April 20th with leaves coming out several days after the flowers.
I've had issues with BR nursery trees. Many. Not Breaking. Normally we break in March some wait 'till May in BR and potted-up. BR/bareroot from chilled storage could be the issue. Not sure all nurserymen know how to hold these. I've had a dozen different dead trees over the years.Gil in W WA
I had to replace it with a new one it never leafed out.
