Hachiya persimmon tree destroyed - ? about rootstock plant

Victorville, CA

Hello,

This may be a long shot, but after hours of Googling I still don't know the answer so I'm hoping a persimmon expert can help me.

I currently have a fuyu persimmon. I bought a hachiya persimmon tree, hoping that they would cross-pollinate, plus I would have some lovely astringent persimmons too. But my Hachiya graft died. Now, the rootstock is sending out shoots. I contacted the nursery, and they told me that the rootstock is d. lotus, the date plum tree.

The date plum seems like it might be a great fruit to grow in its own right, but the main problem is that the tree is either male or female. I guess my question is about pollinating: can fuyu and the date plum (d. lotus) cross-pollinate each other? It's not such a big deal for the fuyu, because it will give fruit (in smaller yields) even without a pollinator but the date plum absolutely must have a pollinator.

Date plums are awesome. Yep pollinator needed. Fuyu/nonastringent type? not likely. i have a bunch of seedlings coming of D lotus form a productive tree. plant a grove they're the best for storing. Gil in WA state.
