So last year we were in the middle of a moving in to our small farm and planting and harvesting were interspersed with remodeling and moving. I got potatoes in the ground in July but never got them harvested. The plants grew fairly well but I don't have a clue what is under the surface. What do I do this year? Till it and plant again? Try to harvest sometime this spring? Or just let them grow and harvest later in the summer?
Thanks
Failed to harvest last years potatoes
Depending on how hard your soil froze, you may get volunteers if you leave them in the ground. I would just start over and plant a new crop of potatoes at the appropriate time for your area. Usually a bout a month before your last frost date.
I don't know how things are where you live, but several of my friends plant fall potatoes in North Louisiana. They never dig them except when needed. They stay fresh underground all winter, even if it freezes.
Thanks, we're just a 2 miles north of Louisville KY, on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. I might try to dig them as the ground thaws and see what I've got.
