Does anyone know of a good reference for fruit orchard design. I am just getting started on about 1.5 acres. Old pasture being converted to fruit orchard.

The Rodale series has been around for MANY years, and probably has something.

The local department of agriculture may be able to help, and the university of Florida highly likely has lots of info.

If you're interested in starting a permaculture food-forest type organic backyard orchard, I would recommend "Gaias Garden" by Toby Hemenway, it had great ideas about creating "guilds" with other plants to help the trees get what they need for nutrition and pest control instead of having to spray chemicals.
