non hardy fuschia winter storage

Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

I have a non hardy fuschia i over winter in my conservatory.
do i leave it outside until the frosts kills the leaves or do i bring it in now. also should it be pruned now or left to the spring

Contra Costa County, CA(Zone 9b)

Bring it in now, lightly trim if needed to remove overly long pieces.
If it will grow through the winter (warm conservatory) then you can prune it a bit more. If it is a cool room, the plant will just sort of sit there, semi-dormant, so do not do much real pruning until spring.

Ayrshire Scotland, United Kingdom

I have to agree with Diana, she gives the instructions I use myself as I have loads of these Fuchsias, geraniums etc that have been sitting in my pots and tubs,
When I bring mine inside I prune any damaged or dead shoots, remove any dead foliage from the soil IF any are there, do a general tidy, IF you can, knock the plant out the pot, spread out your fingers around the top of the pot holding the soil and plant in place, then tap the upturned pot to releace the plant, do a search of the bottom of the pot and soil just to make sure your not bringing in any slugs or ants in with the plant, remove these if you find them, place the flower back into the pot and place on a saucer, give a drink but as Diana has said, if the conservatory is warm, water the plant only enough to keep it alive, IF the room is cold, leave the plant in semi light, only water IF bone dry and dont give too much.
As winter goes on, deadhead any flowers BUT leave a proper pruning till early spring when you see tiny little new shoots appear, make sure you keep the GROWING plant in a bit of light BUT a dormant plants can have less light.
In early spring, pot into new fresher soil with a good feed added, prune the plant after re-potting, place outdoors in warm days but bring in when darkness falls IF weather permits, by end of May, the plants should be ready to leave outside IF all frost has gone.
Good luck, dont let our cold nights get to the plant, better inside than out at this time of year.
I was awake all last night when the tail end of the Hurricane Gonzala came past with a vengence and we were hit with 100 mile hour gales, strewing all my pots and our conservatory was like entering a fairground show, it calmed down a bit this afternoon but supposed to swing back to use this evening before breaking up out at sea, West Coast gets all this diversity of weather I guess.
Hope you were all OK as you guyes had lots of flooding over previous years.
Take good care and enjoy your gardening hobby.

Best Regards.
WeeNel.
