I found this remarkable yellow and burnt orange mum, and it is definitely not hardy here in zone 4. Is there a known way to keep it alive indoors? Can it go dormant in my basement or does it need to stay in the sunlight?
Questions on florist mums
In my area most Mums that are garden hardy get cut back after flowering to pretty short stems, and mostly no leaves. Then new stems (and, of course) new leaves come up from the ground. The old stems that got cut back do not usually resprout.
If I was going to try to replicate this in the house I would be more conservative about trimming it, mostly dead heading rather than cutting too far back down the stem. A window with direct winter sun would be good, especially if it is a bit cool next to the window.
Late winter I would repot it, divide it if it needed it (probably does- florist Mums are usually very crowded), and fertilize it to encourage new leaves.
Okay! Thanks!
