First post here! I'm seeking help in many ways but most pressing is the overtaking of thorny, pokey, sliver-covered vines. Some have white stems that have "slivers" that come out and stick in our skin very easily. Others have green stems that have "thorns" that don't come out and stick in us, but do cut us.
I can post photos of different types, but they are long, and spread and climb across the ground, not so much UP. They smash down the natural growth/weeds/flowers in the woods behind our house, and wrap tightly around some others, killing the tress that are back there.
What would be the best way to tackle these evil vines? They strangled the bottom of a little 2 foot tall pine tree, I got it out and moved it, but they have most of the natural growth/smalltrees/shrubs/tall (but pretty) weeds back there) are being ground smashed down as if a heavy blanket is lying over everything.
Evil sliver-covered vines strapping down natural growth!
No, I have whiteish vines with slivers on them and green vines with sharp cutting thorns. It is the green ones that wrap around other plants. I will take a photo and post it tomorrow! The whitish stem ones just seem to weigh down and smash everything else, but they aren't the stranglers! Thanks so much for your help!
Sounds like Smilax (saw briars).
that was my first thought also.
