Lost home, would it be tomato suicide to transplant from bed

Elizabeth, CO

We have 7 varieties of HUGE, really well producing (although still green) tomato plants in a raised bed that my ex built (yep, the ex is the reason we have to move NOW)....I'm only moving 8 miles away, so similar conditions, but I'm worried that if I transplant these annuals now (Rocky Mountain Denver), they'll lose their fruit. Plant homicide if I do it?
Thanks,
Kirsten

if they were literally planted in soil (as opposed to a large pot or container), and they are in fruit, then yeah it would ruin the crop i would think. What i would do is take some sanitary scissors and snip off a couple of the suckers and place them in some fresh potting soil in a container and keep moist (but not soggy), to get the suckers to root. I have an heirloom tomato plant that i started that way that is now starting to work on the fruiting process.

although honestly it may be too late in the year to try it that way and get anything edible in time before the cold weather comes.

JMC, thanks so much. I think I deserve to at least come back and harvest, since I'm not moving far away....then the rest can be his problem!
I have sooooo many good things that will transplant well (trees, fruit trees, berry bushes, tons of roses, etc, that I'll simply focus on them!
Very best,

if you simply hate the thought of wasting all of those green tomatoes, one thing you can still do is pluck them anyways, and do the old "banana in a bag" trick with them to encourage early ripening--making sure the banana doesnt go totally mushy, and making sure the bag is out of direct sun

Maybe you could pick some for fried green tomatoes?

Gonna figure something out, even if I have to hop the fence! I think the ex will at least let me do this harvest, I worked so hard on it. Otherwise, both the bag trick and fried green tomatoes sound wonderful (as does throwing the tomatoes all over his walls....kidding, sort of!)
