SQUASH IN TROUBLE

Kensington, NY

Something is afflicting the winter squash plants in my garden, not the cantalopes as much and not the luffa at all. It seems to spread from the sunnier side to the shadier side AND from the root up to the leaves.

photo 5 might be a bean plant

The dead plant was in gorgeous full leaf and flower about two weeks ago.
I am trying Seranade, Neem and Safer insecticidal soap.

Here are two more photos-of luffa. It seems to be having almost no problem.

In the first post, first pic looks like a fungus sort of thing, but did the fungus kill the leaf, or did it move in on compromised tissue after something else weakened it?
Second picture looks like sunburn.

There are a few diseases that can kill this fast. Most are soil borne pathogens that enter the plant and travel through the vascular system, shutting it down. Some of them are fusarium and phytophthera.

Here. You will have to do some clicking and scrolling, but there seems to be a lot of info here:

Diana, thanks for the link.

The problem seemed to have zoomed up the stem almost overnight one night last week after I treated it. I took off a long vine - the stem itself seems to be infected and I think it spread. Some of the other remaining vines still look alive.

I am posting these pics in the hope someone will recognize the problem.
thanks
Heather

The pics continue of the one still left alive- this is the very end of this vine and it looks great.
The problem spreads from the root and stalk area up.

I have a huge squash, flowering, but all male flowers. This has been going on for about 2 weeks. When will my female flowers appear. I have been using Miracle Grow for vegetables. I have lots of flowers, but no female. The leaves are huge. I only have l plant. Do I need more than one plant for fertilization.

behilllman-that is very common. The plants put on male flowers first to attract pollinators. Two weeks isn't that long. I've had them do that for longer....hang in there, the female flowers will come. No, you only need 1 plant.
