What is this weed?

(Zone 6a)

I have this weed growing everywhere. The roots are very deep so pulling it out of the ground generally doesn't completely remove the weed. It will grow very high if not attacked. If anybody has experience with this one please advise. Thanks!

Looks like an oak tree to me.

I agree, especially when you say it is hard to pull up. Many oaks grow a very long tap root before any leaves show up. By the time you see the leaves, and try to pull it out there is a foot long, very strong root.
Dig it out, not just pull.

Lucky you! Looks like an oak to me too! Dig deep and transplant to the place you'd love, love, love shade. Oaks are wonderful trees.

By the way, the general advice for placement of trees is:
Deciduous trees to the south and west of your house, so they shade your house in summer but allow sun to come thru in winter.
Evergreens elsewhere.

Thanks for the responses. I have lots of oak trees so it probably is an oak tree popping up.

Unless you are in the southern hemisphere.

Yep, I think that is an oak too. Lovely!

Oak, which kind? I thought it might look more like a baby sassafrass tree.
