Pine Trees Near Raised Bed, ammend soil or not?

Osgoode, Canada

Hi All!
In reading other forums and posts, I read one dger amended her soil due to having pine trees nearby. I just built this garden this past spring, I never took into consideration the surrounding trees 9my only concern was find an ideal sunny location, make sure I get lots of soil - the highest quality of soil. Could the pine trees (because of the pine needles dropping on the surface soil of my garden) be affecting the speed at which my cucumber plants are growing? Would anyone recommend amending the soil at this point with anything? (if so.....what???)
Sorry to re post, brand new to this site. I also am only in my second year doing the whole veggie garden thing (and I thoroughly enjoy it, but am lacking the long time gardener knowledge. I am having great luck with my toms, I have plants at 6 feet in height and producing like crazy...just a bit impatient with the slow growth of my cucumbers as well as my maya habeneros.

I dunno about the pine trees, but I can tell you that I use pine needles as mulch on my vegetable garden and I have no problem.
Happy gardening !

I don't know about the pine trees, but you have some gorgeous greenery going on there!

Careful with adding too much nitrogen, through, or you'll end up with all greenery and not a lot of fruits...

Hello Gymgirl , been reading a lot of past threads of yours from years back (ebuckets, ect.) I so appreciate your feedback. I actually have amazing maters that I grew from seed under proper equipment. I'm a starter to all this and have an older friend who actually specializes in this. He is amazed with my tomatoes. He insists with my powdery mildew to leave it be (seeing I only had 2 leaves affected) - here in Ottawa with our humidity there is usually no heat spell without it (JOYS OF CANADA, we are either 40 below or above, and all of us complain :) ) I have lots of greenery but tons of fruit - I went at them today, getting rid of any wasted energy! I am having a blast, and being a young mother - I find it so unbelievably relaxing once the hubby gets home an I vacate to my "domain"
I have been hand picking pine needles but am assuming I am in good shape in regards to at least MOST of my garden pleasing me.
Thanks to all dg's, love ready all prior posts - so many beautiful people out there

I think people will say that fertilizer{Miraclegrow} needs to be applied as soon as you plant the seed. And so on, every week. It might be a little late for the fertilizer.
