patio

Staten Island, NY(Zone 6a)

Just completed the patio that hubby and I started last summer. We added an area to meet the backyard lawn so no more muddy walkway, pictures #1and #2 are last years job and the others are views of the final product.

Nice how you added the contrasting color in there.
Looks like they have a little bit of slope to direct water away from the house, too.
Good job!

Thanks Diana K, Yes we did do the slope, if you notice there was already a concrete path near the fence so we sloped it towards that area and put in a few plain concrete color blocks to blend it in with the path.We tried growing grass there for seven years but it was not doing well ,so this was our alternative.

WOW, what a difference EH !!!!! looks like you have created a little haven there where you can also sit and have a quiet area, maybe put up a bird feeder, it's so entertaining to sit watch those little creatures while your having a cup of coffee, sometimes we gardeners don't take the time to sit down and enjoy the hard work we have done while creating out little peace of Eden for ourselves EH !!!!!, as we get older ( like myself) it's nice to sit down with a drink of tea or coffee and look at nature as it really is, and helped along by us.

Enjoy your new patio and make good use of those chairs you have LOL.
Great work and kindest Regards.

Hi WeeNel, I do have some bird feeders over the garden bed near the patio. I took these picture through the window and caught a squirrel try to eat their food.laugh.When I have my coffee in the morning on the patio I will remember you.

Thank you for these kind thoughts cytf, I am now over run with grey squirrels who think they own the bird feeders, how do you get rid without harming them, I use a water pistol that my grandkids have but just still too slow on the draw, guess Annie Oakley will still be the fasted gun in the West LOL.
Enjoy your patio, next year you'll be asking for a larger one as that new one is over crowded LOL.
Kindest Regards.

WeeNel , just got a picture of a Cardinal on the bird feeder.I tied the feeders with a very thin strong twine because I observed if the string is thicker the squirrel can hold on and reach the feeders then they get tired of trying ,For my flower pots I shake ground black pepper for them.

O.M.G. how beautiful, we do not have any birds that look anything close to that colour, we have lot's of really pretty birds small and large and a great selection of them come or inhabit or place, so I spend a lot of my time making bird cakes, mixture of wild bird food, and I save any fats from roasting tins, and buy some fat from the grocery store, melt the fat and mix in the feed with added pea nuts, black sunflower heats etc, fill large bowl and place that inside an empty hanging basket, it's hung outside the windows on a rose arch, the shrubs, Climbing Roses etc give a good place for the smaller birds to escape the Sparrow Hawks when they come a calling, it's also wonderful every morning at dawn we hear the Song Thrushes, Robins and Blackbirds that give the morning chorus , sure makes a good start to the day.
BUT those pesky squirrels are afraid of nothing, My DH even wired another hanging basket upside down making the feeder into a wire ball to keep the Squirrels out of the feed, they squeeze themselves into the ball and sit feeding, then the fun starts, they eat so much, they can hardly get through the spars of the wire ball as their little tummies are way too fat, it's quite hilarious, BUT they eat far too much food meant for the birds.
I'm encircled on 3 sides with woodland, so we have Deer, Hedgehogs, Fox, a stream gives up Water voles, (very secretive little animals) Squirrels, lots of woodland plants and trees, then a home looking over the sea, My waiting room for heaven,
As much as I cus the squirrels and the Deer as they eat my plants, but personally, I'd rather watch those animals who I managed to move into there habitat, than be in a town / city watching cars roaring by, litter, huge building estates and way too many people so, guess my squirrels will have to eat up a little more before I decide to try expel them, jeeeees, I sound like Dr Doolittle's wife LOL.
How lucky we are to have all this on our doorstep and importantly, enjoy the wildlife to a point, but for some, it must be their worse Nightmare.
Just you continue to enjoy and keep up the good work of feeding the birds who pay you back a thousand fold just by visiting your place.

have a great gardening season with even more pleasures to come.
Best wishes.
WeeNel.
