Planting peas & onions together

This spring I had planted some onion sets and then decided to stick in some heirloom pea seeds I'd saved from last year. I'm finding its a wonderful combo. The onions are growing nice and big and the peas are using the onion stems to vine around keeping them upright. Has anyone ever tried this before? I have so many pea pods coming on now...I can't wait for the few more days till I'm eating fresh peas!

Here is a picture of the peas & onions together. Believe it or not there are also 2 tomato plants and 2 zucchini plants in there as well as some beets. All are thriving so far.
